Does anyone make ceramic plugs? I have access to a some clay and a kiln. I've not seen any before and thought it'd be quite easy to make them. I don't know anyone local with tunnels to test them for me though.

Arent those porous and not suitable to wear for long term? I remember a massive discussion with some people I know who make them.
I'd love to own a dermal one day and make my own stone stuff. But atm living with my parents and no free space.

As lovely an idea as that is, it's also completely bullshit.
If nobody should be able to judge that person because they have decided to have their face cut up then nobody should be able to make a judgement about someone that chooses to be visibly tattooed with white power symbols, someone that chooses to wear a tracksuit as opposed to a tailored suit or taken to the extreme, someone who chooses to act in a sexually inappropriate way around children.
The ability and right for one person to look at another's appearance and behavior and make a judgement of that person are fundamental to interacting with others.

So, I'm back to roughly 6.5mm.
Stupid thing... I fitted a wooden 10mm plug, but it didn't feel comfy enough and I couldn't sleep, because my daughter - who was in bed with me - was playing around and grabbing my ear. I got up in the middle of the night and shove the silicon plug with a wide collar back in.
The next morning I woke up with an infection. I had to downsize, soak the thing in saline and put some antibiotic cream on it.
Here's the lesson - not only acrylic, but also a silicone plug can cause a serious infection, as it creates a hermetically sealed environment for the bacteria to grow. -

Unfortunatly as you say cheap silicone plugs/jewellery harbours bacteria and can really upset new and old piercings. Acrylic or PMMA is generally OK for most people but still causes heaps of issues.
I have always been against putting any kind of antibiotic cream on a fresh or upset piercing as it does not let the wound air and can also just generally irriate it. If you do encounter an issue like this again I would try 1/4 tea spoon of maldon sea salt (any salt as long as no iodine is added) to 250ml of freshly boiled water (let it cool) and do soaks 3-4 times a day. Emu oil is a great healer, and by far my favorite healing aid. I have also found that switching to wood or horn after a slight irritation or infection can really help.

@lileth- those concave plugs are beautiful.

You put silicone in a freshly stretched piercing? Fail.
Kaos, one of the top makers for silicone recommand (in their FAQ) not putting it in a freshly stretched ear, let alone a cheaply made one!
Acrylic is a porous material, and especially in moist environments, it becomes more porous over time. The pores of the material can become a breeding ground for bacteria. Mmmmm! Bacteria. It is not safe to stretch with, wear in your oral piercings, or really just wear for an extended amount of time. Just spend a little extra and get pyrex.
Wood and horn aren't good, they're also porous for a healing (EEI's ear is flared up) he's better off with glass or stone. Hence why my new jewellery are both as my ears are also healing.I also have shitloads of plugs/tunnels to sell. I need to size them up, cleanse with medical alcohol and get rid.
P.s thank you Joe, I'm very excited about them

I've had a silicone tunnel in for about 2 years. No problems here. It was fully healed when I put it in though.
-
• #223
Same, I have like 4 or 5 pairs of silicone (Kaos earskins) when I was at 16mm, ears were also fully healed.

Kaos is ok, but the cheap shite far east stuff on sale in most shops is yuck and pretty toxic. Still not a fan of silicone personally, makes my ears itchy

Surgical quality/grade stainless steel no good? Seems to be a logical thing to use.
I prefer making my own. Getting custom done for me never feels that special
