When you're young, spending loads on clothes is daft as fashion, your taste and often your body changes pretty frequently. As you get older and you care less about trends - and you've settled into being 'slightly overweight' - you can start to amass some more timeless pieces: a good, classically-tailored suit or two (always with room for adjustment); a selection of seasonal outerwear; some decent knitwear; and shoes which cost enough to bother resoling when they wear out.

I have a few nice scarves, but I haven't a clue how to wear them, or anything else for that matter.
I love dressing up, but that doesn't mean I'm any good at it or that I even get a chance to.
If money wasn't an option, I would just hang out in Oscar de la Renta all day.

Interesting how best to tie a scarf, if that's the expression;
Like so?
or
or
or just lighten up?

'The Cov Knot' makes me cringe
It may do, but it's a perfectly adequate method of tying a scarf, especially on a day when you don't want it sitting to close to your neck.
The one I hate is the one that goes up and through and the vertically downwards like a giant dog's tongue.
As you're such a connoisseur, maybe you could share with us your chosen method?

I go for no.3, start with one end and keep on wrapping 'til it's all used up.
It's a keeping warm not a look at me scarf though.

I though the same thing the fist time I saw someone wearing a scarf like that, and I'm no style man.

i have done it in the past but i am not proud of it. i stopped doing it a while back when everybody was doing it even with the shortest of scarves which looked ridiculous. thats when i decided its time to stop.

^ WANKER!
T-shirt & a scarf is EPIC fail! People do it as a 'look' not function and it looks WANK!
It's like wearing a dufflecoat with flip flops!

Hang on.
Superdry were good 5 years ago.
Great quality, great cut, great designs and average price.
Then just like everything, the masses latched on.
Suddenly News correspondants were wearing Superdry jackets.
Plus every other cunt.
Superdry don't give a shit. They'll reap till the hate turns the market.
They should have been clever and created other indentities.

Agreed.
It is hard to like a successful company tho.
To be honest, I think they have been the only store in Neals Yard to expand.

don't forget Hackett.

All Saints is the worst of the lot. Saturday Night Rizty Boys gear, daft bleached and spiky hair-do's.

there is only one justification for t-shirt with scarf, imho. I'll alow singers (professionals that is) to get away with it. I have a friend who, unless it is in the 80F or above always has some sort of scarf on for that reason.
@nhatt - if you want to learn to tie a scarf lets go to liberty. They will gladly spend 30 mins or so showing you half a dozen techniques. They even have an illustrated booklet about scarf tying. I'm happy to go with you too... As i own a fair number of scarves.
I've got about 12 scarfs. Original Tootal(used to collect them) silk, as well as more standard wool, cashmere etc....
They HAVE to be worn properly not like 99% of teds you see nowadays from boybands to weathermen. You know, that horrible double up then push down through the middle.
Me and my mates called that way of dressing a scarf 'The Cov Knot' cos every cunt in Covent Garden wore it that way
