Any recommendations for reasonably priced ones?
As long as you're not the same size as me.....

It is. Or is certainly worth a shot.
Buying suits from M&S isn't. They are awful, you can spot them a mile off, they look horrid, and are the sole preserve of middle aged middle management who either go shopping with their wives and do as they're told, or just let their wives buy their clothes. And they wear them with Clarks shoes and shitty ties. Awful.
Spend the same money in the sale in Hackett, Austen Reed, John Lewis, Aquscutum, Ede and Ravenscroftm, or similar, and get a vastly superior item.
Are they that bad? Could you really tell the difference? Will a ton really buy you something from the über labels you list? Thankfully I'm of a slightly stronger mind to not throw away my Clarks or my M&S suit (or is this my 'Blue Nun' moment?) cos I felt it looked pretty good and helped me get a good yenz....And no I didn't pull her in the Wimpy!
If the £100 doesn't come even close to the labels mentioned the comment potentially sends this thread up it's own arse. I know its all opinions (and ultra sage advise) but... -

Sorry I meant reasonably priced tailors. Not suits.
Also are there any good sales around? The closest I've got is 50% in the CK store... pj bottoms and underwear is nice, but it hardly feels like a score.

*Some *Clarks shoes are hideous. And depending on your size the fit and look of *some *M&S suits are horrible.
However, not all are.
Last time I tried on an M&S suit it looked rubbish on me (and it was a big store). I went to French Eye accross the road and got a suit for less that fitted me better. I think the lesson is to get clothes that fit you and complement your body type. I have a friend who manages to make even the cheapest nastiest Primark etc. look like something from a GQ shoot. It's just about choosing what works.

It can be said that you can indeed take an inexpensive suit, get it properly fitted and tailored and you'll have something that is more than passable. The other part of it is not allowing the suit to wear you. Confidence plays a major role in how you carry off a suit.
If it looks shite, then you'll know it looks shite and therefore you'll have an air of shiteness about you, regardless of how much Joop you spray on/drink/bathe in. If it's been adjusted to make it at least look like it's yours and not one you borrowed for an appearance then your job is done.

I work in an office environment and am supposed to wear a suit every day. In this instance, the old adage "buy cheap, buy twice" does not apply. Pure wool suits crumble under the daily strain of office chair to coffee machine and back. Until recently, I had 4 pristine suit coats in my wardrobe and no trousers as the arse had fallen out of all of them. I always buy 2 pairs of trousers with each suit too.
I now buy trousers only as I never wear the jacket. Bike to and from work and rarely see clients.
1 nice black suit in the wardrobe in case someone dies.

The first suit ANY chap should buy should be grey. It works perfectly well for births marriages and deaths.

Racist and incorrect.
First suit should be black... If someone dies, you dont want to look like you're on your way to Royal Ascot.

i may even tell you a taleI like Band Of Outsiders for what they are but I find it interesting how well they are stocked (and I assume sell) at some of the more forward looking boutiques as there market seems to be "bankers with style", I guess that is what shelling out the big bucks for Archetype gets you.

Also are there any good sales around?
Now that we have this thread I will post London sample sale details as and when I hear of them, most of the F/W10 sales have happened but stores will be having after xmas sales on at the moment more then likely. After the February fashion month stores will start to get in the spring collections so that is also a good time to pick stuff up (especially at the smaller stores who don't have the room to store excess inventory)
Oaks 30/40/50 sale will have 50% off most things in their web-store until friday, which might make international shipping worth it, and Oki-ni was having a sale last I looked.
Also some good stuff has been popping up on Gilt Man recently.

Quality knits are the business also, can't go wrong with a good knit cardigan or sweater. The most important thing is fit though, doesn't matter how fancy the materials if it doesn't fit perfectly.
