  • ..always found myself inspired to be more like Chet Baker.

    solid smack habit?!

  • Well... Musically and stylistically at least, leave the smack habit out of it for now... No denying though, Chet Baker was the coolest cat around!

  • nonsense!

  • /\ /\ that sweater steve mcqueen is wearing; if made out of thick cashmere would be the one to keep forever.

how many years ago and still chic. love the straight bottom edge of the waistcoat/vest.

  • IF I ever get a bespoke suit I'll be going to:

    http://tombakerlondon.com/

Oh, Tom... He used to do all my alterations for me BITD... Does he still drink in the Blue Posts?

  • I've seen him in there onmore than one or two occasions......

  • Old Town make very nice suits and proper trousers.

I am another Old Town http://www.old-town.co.uk/ customer. Though I fear its starting to dominate my wardrobe.

  • i remember when old town started up at elm hill in Norwich (i was at art college down the road)
completely forgot about them until you posted, good to see them still going.
i can see a purchase soon.

  • nice

  • coppithat, who was the tailor on Deptford High St (now disappeared) who made my wedding outfit and all of Vic and Bob's 90's garms?

  • sidney/sydney charles

also did chris evans suits for dont forget your toothbrush

I thought that bell-end William Hunt did all of Vic and Bobs stuff?

    Legs. That is all.

  • I once proposed to Hadley Freeman via email. True story.

  • Picked up a pair of tasty Joseph trousers in the Selfridges sale earlier - narrow fit, sharp creases, brown cotton, need taking in a bit for length. As a few are here, I'm aiming for a sharpening up clobber wise this year, feel like sporting an Englishman on the make look. Too much of my money goes on crap, want to put more of it towards worthwhile items that will make me feel good for longer.

  • ^Exactly how I feel. Quality not quantity.

  • You can never have too many scarves. Not the Liam Gallagher wannabe toss-pot look or the footballer goes shopping touch, but a decent scarf will finish most looks perfectly.

Jesus - what must I sound like?!

  • I wonder what's going on - I think there's something in the air. Threads like this and the proper leather shoes one have made me reappraise my wardrobe, and attitude. I've got too many clothes, but wear the same bits time and again. There's a strong current towards a sharp look for this year on the forum (duck, here comes a trend), but I'd like to think it's a shunning of mass produced tat and a return to skill and craft.

Maybe some sort of well needed cultural shift is under-way. I'm even dumping the beard. I've always loved clothes, my old man was a tailor and a sharp Northern soul-boy in the 60s so an appreciation of style runs in the family; I'm excited by the prospect of freshening up, shedding my skin.

Or maybe I think too much.

  • can you get your father to make you some garments?

I've had the 'smartening myself up' conversation with several forum folk but the big issue is [strike]a crap read./strike
THE big issue is marrying good clothes with being on the bike all day. Wearing smart(er) clobber, I'd want some kind of moustache handle bars for a more upright position as opposed to being stretched/drapped over drop bars. I'm concerned about my sweaty ways once on the road.
Also shoes. Can you use plastic cages on leather shoes without damaging the leather? Wouldn't the tip toe of pedaling feet crease the leather permanently? Couldn't see myself going all coaster brakes...

  • Get a car.

  • Or a life

  • Get a car.

    And a driver.

  • ...

+1 to getting high street or 2nd hand bespoke suits tweeked by a tailor ....

Any recommendations for reasonably priced ones tailors in London? - North/East/Central preferred.
