Actually, the more I think about it, the more I just want to say first-come-first served, 10-team cap.

I hear Chris needs all the practice he can get.

I think it would be good to keep it local for several reasons. Easy to travel to with little commitment and smallers costs and can be cancelled easily if weather is bad. Good for clubs outside of london to get competitive practice.

London's a pretty similar distance to Cambridge/Bristol/Manchester though, so localism isn't really the issue. London have a big enough scene to look after themselves and get competitive play regularly though, so it seems fair to focus on 'the regions'.

Boooooooring! :)

A Bristol warm up would be cool, the pre-requisite being that you must be playing at Bristol?
If you were to do the regions thing I think it would better if it were open to 1 team per scene. (with a 10 team cap) Or two per scene if you could manage it. Bench seems to be the way to go tho. then more people get to play, with a similar amount of organising.
Just need to come up with a whimsical theme.

Finley! are shafts here?
Payday today so money burning hole in pocket - any shafts yet?
-
• #2762
Nope is the short answer.

Bristol-playing criteria would leave it open to twenty-odd teams though. I think 10 is a realistic maximum.
I dislike bench format, and don't see how it makes for more court-time. There's still only six people on court at any one time...
1 team per scene could be good, at least to start with, then open it up for bigger scenes to send more or people to join up in mixed-scene teams.

Battle of the Scenes.
One team from each UK scene invited!
-
• #2765
Its not court time I was talking about for bench, but actually that more people can be involved. 6 per team would mean twice as many people get to come and play with still the same amount of teams.

No idea where that list got to, but I'm sure I asked for two shafts.
I think we're overthinking what will be a one-day, weather dependant, not-that-competitive tournament. I reckon we should just list it, with the following key features, and let everyone else decide their teams/if they want to come...
- Sunday 17th March, 10-4pm
- 10 team maximum, first come first served (three slots reserved for Birmingham, but we'll probably only be able to muster two at the most)
- Will be cancelled at 12 hours notice if the weather is looking awful, so don't book train tickets.
The time, duration and cancellability should/will put off far-flung scenes from attending anyhow.

Dan I think officially you're now the most pessimistic person I know! What if the world end before the 17th March? Don't both asking people to come lets just tell them we've cancelled a tournement that we haven't organised yet?
But seriously your right Dan lets just throw it out there and see who fancies it? Its only a few weeks away so doubt they'll be massive lists of people wanting to come? I think we should be able to call it on the Friday weather wise.
-
• #2769
That's not pessimistic! I'm just saying we need to be clear that people shouldn't book tickets to come up until they know what the weather is likely to do. But yeah, maybe 12 hours notice is too late. 24 then. If you rely on public transport you have to accept and get used to being fucked around with, so they probably won't mind anyway.

Critical mass on Friday, let's do some polo flyering.

Hyper/Neil wanna sign off on this and get it posted on the main forum? Or change it? It would be nice to get it on there before the weekend, giving everyone a few weeks notice.

Yes.
Does that mean I have to ride my polo bike into town again? -

Print this one... they'll definitely come!

2 Birmingham
1 Manchester
1 Bristol
1 London
1 Sheffield
1 Cambridge
Then when they are taken, offer three more spots first-come-first-served?
