Proper leather shoes

  • I had some NDC's few years back, very similar

    REAM!

  • I love the purist beuty of them, but they are just the tiniest bit pointless, as once they are worn, the smooth pure lines crinkle. Still, it is a bit of a showoff for a cobbler, to make a shoe upper of one piece of leather. I appreciate a master craftsman showing the upper limits of their skill.

A junior cobbler would ruin many hides trying to acomplish the same thing. I think it must be far, far easier to stich together small pieces of cut leather.

I can appreciate that side of things but I wouldn't wear them myself.

  • Porn by James Taylor.

i don't know what kind of cunt you'd have to be to wear these shoes.

  • A QC (Queen's Counsel) type of cunt I suppose. My uncle is a QC, and has at least 6 pairs of shoes that look very like that. His are made by Bally, but they look fine on him, and go well with his pinstriped suit and barrister's wig. I find the edge detail to be over-fussy, but because of my admiration for my erstwhile uncle, I still find those shoes to be attractive - though not as much as the one's posted by Pisti.

My uncle's shoe was a cut-down version of this, below.

  • and as a variation, the monk shoe is essential

  • about to pull the trigger on some grenson brogues, tempted on the archies

unless they look overly chunky on.

But before I do, is there any better alternatives? Checked trickers but think i prefer these, especially considering the price difference

also, gonna head down to the grenson store by liverpool st, anyone been?

  • Grenson Schmenson

  • that's what I thought...

  • There's a "List" on page 6 of this thread. Better to compare amongst the various makers.

  • Just bought these, very nice they are too.

Balls, daft flash site. They're the Bryant ones on page 2. In brown.

  • Grenson Schmenson

Agreed. Grenson were recently 'streamlined' by a savvy businessman, having their range 'modernised' (vibram corrective soles being applied liberally) and the website/marketing side spruced up in order to cash in on the renewed interest in menswear. It's all quite slick now, but they're starting to pop up everywhere. I'd look elsewhere myself, though they are (some of them) nice.

  • yeah i realize that too, but so far the archie is the best looking brogue i've seen so far

i understand there's better and more 'proper' brogues, but can't find any i like more than grensons

  • the grenson store in liverpool st is tosh. they stock grenson at the three threads

  • ^^Get them then, don't worry about every tom dick and harry chiming in here, or the supposed credibility of whichever brand and their current position. Grensons have been bought out, it's still the same bunch of wrinkly old boys who've been making them for years. Church's have been bought by Prada but not a thing has changed with the workforce or the integrity with which they're designed and assembled. You still don't want to buy anything made on a friday afternoon because the Foundry Tavern across the road from the factory is heaving with Church's workers at lunchtime.

  • Yeah, that's the one. They're in beautiful shiny uncreased sweet smelling unblemished soled jewel like condition.

Gonna have to start breaking them in, a walk round the park with the dog will probably see them scuffed and trodden in shit. They're too posh for me.

  • THESE, are going to be my wedding shoes. Hubba fucking bubba.....

    lolz, cab rank?

  • What are Baumler brogues like? TK Jakes have them reduced from £130 to £40-50 (can't remember) - Goodyear welted etc. Is this a known brand, or a fashion brand?
