  • Had to use a lot of self restraint going past the Paraboot store in Avignon a few weeks back, those where in the window.
Those soles look so good on a loafer.

  • New Moorbys, second pair of boots from them.
Hometown proud, but the main thing is that they’re a great quality boot that fits me and even at full price, a great deal.

  • Interesting stitching decisions…

Yeah I think I have Evisu jean nostalgia syndrome.

Your Moorby’s look absolutely solid, congrats.

  • I think there are certain shoes that suit certain size ranges. Big monks look clumsy, small loafers look dainty. Oxfords are sizeless.

Probably to do with how much visable leather there is playing optical illusions.

Still I keep getting curious to try some loafers even though I instinctively dislike them. Partly because of the low weight as I carry leather shoes to work. However, I'm only in the office 2-3 days pw yet have 6 odd pairs of work shoes...so....

  • These are really nice.

    What's the sizing like?

  • They’re really nice. Looks like a great winter boot but also dressy enough to wear on pretty much and occasion.

  • small loafers look effeminate

    Fuck off you bigot

  • It wasn't meant to be offensive. Happy to edit it to an appropriate alternative if loaferers have been offended.

  • Thanks, looking forward to some quality break in time with them.

  • I think they’re on something akin to a Munson last, aka modified.
I usually wear 10.5 - 11 in most NA shoes, these are 9.5 EE, though most guys who have them say they’re more like EEE. Either way, really nice fit for me.

  • Thanks, I wear pretty much any of my shoes in winter, it’s generally too cold to worry about slush anyway. I would certainly wear them for a formal occasion, but many would balk at this - they’re quite similar to Iron Rangers.

  • I’ve got a slight scuff on the brown leather sleeve of a baseball jacket. Any reason not to use the closest colour match shoe cream I can find? Leather’s leather right 🤷🏼‍♂️

  • Quite like the idea of some plain brown Chelsea boots/dealer boots, as as I have warmed to the minimalism - having dismissed them previously. Never really gone for them before though. What should I be looking out for (I realise the fit might be more snug than I’m used to).

  • Romeo boots is another search term you can use - good year welted versions will last you eons.

  • Anyone here that has a pair of the Meermin Chelsea boots? Construction wise very similar to RMW at a fraction of the price.

  • Thanks. Not heard them called that before. Does the elastic not eventually give up?

Like some of those Meermins. But I fear an E fitting might be a bit narrow for me.

  • Don’t see why not. I reconditioned a letterman jacket with shoe cream - it’s been completely fine

  • Cheers. I just realised they are Canadian, so that's a purchase that'll have to wait until our currency has recovered.

  • No, but my old work mate used to buy Meermin boots, albeit not Chelsea, in pairs when they had their 2nd pair discount. He loved them, wore them relentlessly and they lasted well.

The only reason he kept buying them is it was basically cheaper to buy new ones than get them resoled, so I think the idea was to keep the old ones until resolving became price competitive...which looking at todays prices they are.

  • Excellent, I’ll crack on. Mine sounds similar, it’s a strong dyed colour as opposed to a natural leather.

  • Not Chelsea boots but I’ve had a few pairs of meermin. Great for the price imo

  • Yeah, about 200 of your units full price.

  • Takes a long time, and a competent shoe repair place could fix it. Also, the elastic is only really stretched when putting the boot on or taking it off, it's mostly relaxed when in use.

  • Do it. To get a closer colour match you can mix different creams. Test the colour on an invisible bit of the leather. If it goes wrong you can remove it with a solvent, but be very very gentle. If it goes well and you want to stop it wearing off, you can protect it with a little clear sealant.
