Proper leather shoes

Dropped my Moc Toe Red Wings into Original Box cobblers in Orpington/ Sidcup for a resole
And a mid sole
And some speed hooks.
£158 including return postage.
Should take a week

I only paid £96 for them new (8 odd years ago)

Any recommendations for boots along the lines of these?

Looking for something that can be worn while cycling around town, ie with a fairly lightweight flexible upper and thin sole. Like the look of the ones above but nervous about the lack of tread on the sole and the absence of a London showroom to see them in person.

Cheaper options always welcome as they'll probably get a bit of a beating.

Maybe checkout Midas boots or Santalum (if you’re not in a rush).

Picked up a pair of ok looking Cheaney's from ebay - not arrived yet but they look fairly legit; English made etc.

I did have to scroll through 10 pages of dross and overpriced rubbish to find them so hopefully it'll be worth it.

Proper leather shoes? Strictly not since 1. Rubber soles and 2. They're from Top Shop. Years ago. Decades even. Found at the back of the cupboard and when I cleaned them up I remembered why I like them. The upper leather is as supple around the ankles as I've ever had. They also feature very neat, fine black leather piping. The toecaps are sound too. I'll keep these for Victorian, tweedy days on the penny farthing.

Needed a smart pair of boots for work (to be worn with a suit) over the winter. Been pretty much constant rain here in Glasgow so far.

Got these, not really sold on the stitching at the heel but they do look quite nice with a suit

I finally got around to touching up the leather on my jacket using a mix of shoe creams, worked great.

I'm after a pair of boots, informal, laceups, chunky sole. Standing around pitchside rather than the office. I have a pair of Grensons and DMs.

However, I find the weight and somewhat harshness of the ride rather wearing on my fucked knee.

Is there a boot out there thats super lightweight and cushioning? (And waterproof)

I’ve walk around in Solovair, very comfy. Although the right pair of socks makes all the difference.

That would be the easiest option yes. I shall investigate.

Won't solve the weight issue but comfort might be enough

Oh - and, if you do go for another boot, I think a commando sole is the more comfy option.

I got these Rockport Boots for dog walking last year, they’re very light, seriously waterproof and have been good for my also fucked knee, got them for £50 in John Lewis sale at the time, not such a bargain at the normal price but worth keeping an eye out for in my opinion in case they get cheap again somewhere.

For grips, was not much there to start with, and is getting worn down now - I was slipping about in the mud the last couple of days after the rain…

eBay dude contacted me to advise that the pair of shoes he'd advertised (and I've bought) as Cheaney are actually Loake.

I'm somewhat disappointed but I need a pair of shoes for work so these will do at £48 delivered.

The wife got me a pair of Clark’s for my birthday and promptly took my manky Kickers down to the charity shop. These are waterproof and have Vibram soles so none of that crepe slip sliding. They were also perfect out the box with no breaking in required.

Tough one, I wasn’t paying, if you can afford them then probably.

It will be interesting to see how they clean up after a day out in the rain.

Bloody hell, when did Clark’s Originals get so pricey? Obviously not the norm but wasn’t so long ago I got some beige Desert Trek for £20 (they’ve cleaned up fine) and brown Wallabees for £10 in the sale
