Chris Crash is waiting for you over in the "Fashion" thread.

• #837
so what do you do with a leather sole? if it wears through to the threads? (i tend to get heel and toe wear quite quickly)
do you stick a thin rubber sole once it's worn a bit so there's a good surface for the glue to key onto? or is it a resole time? worried that's going to happen quite quickly? You put blakeys on, for a start, to arrest leather wear.
-
• #838
i don't really want blakeys on the toe if i can avoid it.
local shoe repair place charges £12 for front rubber's i don't know whether to trust them though after the trouble had with a shit cobbler a few pages back. -

I´d go to a reputable one, no way I´d trust a nice pair of shoes with just anyone again

How often do you wear leather shoes, Pisti? For how long have you been wearing leather shoes?
I've been in the leather shoe game for over TWENTY FIVE YEARS, Pisti.... TWENTY FIVE! I wear them daily... I didnt come down in the last shower. I have the runs on the fucking board.
Leather soles are fine if you only wear them for weddings and funerals, or you're absolutely minted and can afford regular resoling... or if you are a massive poser.
For practicality and longevity, its synthetic soles all the way.

• #844
Actually, its almost twenty seven.

Start as one means to go on. Grey short pants, leather shoes, tie, school blazer/jacket. This beginning is ignored at the time, but one grows up to appreciate certain things, like a tie done properly, and proper leather shoes, properly polished. Neanderthal isn't a fashon my dear man, it is a cul-de-sac.
Leather shoes FTMFW.

I had a dream last night about a pair of my Ealing Brogues, the soles were going through and I was sad. Fortunately it was but a dream. By the way, anyone in south east London who wants a couple of tips I know a fantastic shoe repairer (who also makes his own bespoke shoes) close to the big Sainsbury's on Dog Kennel Hill. Also an old boy called 'Fred the Shoe' (I shit you not) on Walworth Rd of Men's Traditional Shoes who picks up seconds from some of the best handmade shoe factories in Blighty before turning them around for about £65.
I should take some pics of some of my shoes but I'm afraid I've become something of a cross between Imelda Marcos and Dorian Gray - it's not pretty. Mainly brogues but also a fine Cromwell or two.

You're getting a bit tiring now Balks... Just sayin'.
They have a line of specialist tug-of-war boots.
I'll donate 5 english pounds to a charity of your choice if you can find specialist ferret legging trousers. Must be made in Yorkshire.
