  • This isn't your thread you spastic.

nuknow, you are going a bit too far. This name calling thingy isn't good.

  • I think it's fairly straight forward to make say moccasins, but to make a proper shoe I'd assume you'll need a fair chunk of specialty tools. Would be an amazing thing to learn though

Goodyear welted sole requires special tools. Lasts cost a fortune, even old one's are expensive.

Some of my family were trained shoe makers in Northampton. I am not sure it would be easy to get an apprenticeship there any more because there's only a few companies left.

I pass Church's and Trickers every morning by the way. If you've seen the film Kinky Boots. That's the Trickers factory, from the outside at least. If anyone ever wanted to do the Northampton shoe factory shop run then I 'might' find the time to show them about.

  • Excellent strides.

  • are the trousers a part of a suit?

box check over a herringbone weave....loving them.

  • Thanks, they're D.S. Dundee, as bought in sample sale and altered by my tailor, Mr Antonious.

  • a friend almost bought a pair of their boots in the spitalfields shop (maybe its the only shop i dont know). i thought they were overpriced but hey....
some nice things in the shop where do they position themselves in the market do you think?

  • Moneyed gents who like their clothes I suppose - the Present crowd, but a bit more gentleman and less advertising creative. I couldn't afford to buy them from the shop mind, and the leg was pretty wide before so maybe they're actually just for old men.

  • Dr Martens are expensive, made in the far east, and as I recently discovered, of absolutely piss poor quality. So imagine my delight when I found out about these folks making original DMs in all but name, in the original workshops by original DM staff.

Think I'm going to be nursing the blisters from a new pair of 8-hole cherry reds fairly soon.

  • I found a pair of cherry red Dr Martens eight hole boots. Made in England; cost me a fiver, love tiny village fairs.

  • They're just round the corner from us....

I once was given a second hand pair of DM boots. I've never experienced pain like it.

Definitely an experience everyone should go through though haha

i can second this! the blisters on my ankles were an affliction which lasted several months

  • is that old dm shop right next to camden tube still there?

  • derbies or longwings?

  • derbies or longwings?

    Long wings...definitely

  • Welcome back SP. :-)

  • Thing is, you take care of your shoes, they'll take care of you. Attached my favourite shoe care products. It's a slow day here at Skipper towers. The Huberds is the best of them all - all natural recipe from some Washington state alchemist from way back.......but the Pecards is great too - check the "Never Leak" and the cheery duck....

First day wearing these. Barg for sure, but it's another 3 months of pain before they break in enough to accomodate my knarled big toe.

  • ive been meaning to get mink oil for my redwings

  • Before I make a proper ad, anyone interested in a pair of Quoddy Tracker boots?

    http://www.quoddy.com/tracker-boot/

Pretty hard to get at all in the UK, and retails for $350 in the US. I got them cheap on ebay and just want my monies back so letting them go for £74.

Just given them a good clean with leather cleaner and treated them with Redwing leather protector and Snowseal

  • Looks like a Cornish pasty with laces
