Dear Mrs Windsor (or do you prefer Battenburg-Saxe-Coburg? I have to say that I'm quite partial to a nice slice of Battenburg with a cup of tea)
It would appear that my invitation to the wedding bash of your grandson and that Sloaney bint he's been seeing for the past few years has been lost or delayed in the post. Not to worry love as I cannot make it anyway as i am going on a ride.
Yours (actually not yours but my own person)

Doesn't this fall into the trap of being a ride to commemorate the 2011 royal wedding?
-
• #113
No. There are plenty of other events happening that day throughout the rest of the world that I'll be far more interested in. For example: making a cup of tea.

When Charles got married, London Transport offered, for the first time ever, a go anywhere on the tube ticket for £2. I bought one and went to Ongar, Ealing and many other places that one would never think of going to nor want to. I didn't celebrate the wedding but avoided it.
The idea of the ride is to get away from all the nonsense of the wedding and the public hysteria surrounding it and go off on bikes. What better day to celebrate some of the events in our nations history that have diminished the power of the monarchy?

But it'll always be remembered as 'that forum ride on the day of the 2011 royal wedding'.

Not necessarily. It could be remembered as "the ride upon which prancer died"

Much like a protest against the monarchy that day would be remembered as 'that protest on the day of the royal wedding'. That doesn't mean it's a commemoration.
It's an anti-monarchy or at least apathetic bike ride.

I'm only speaking on behalf of Satan.
Anyway, I like the rebranding, but will be occupied with family.

Wedding to go to that day, eh?
I knew that you and your anti-establishment ways were a farce.

As we have the whole glorious day off work (hopefully) I can see no reason why it must be either/or Republic or Guinness. Maybe a long demanding ride in the morning, will be good counterbalance to the stout festivities of the evening.
As we are now in March, don't forget to pick up your Guinness foam hat if you are intending to join the evening ride.

are you doing a paddy's day guinness ride?
Certainly he was born and grew up in Thetford, but Lewes, where he worked as an Excise officer, was more important to his political development.
