  • are you going to stop at the Socialst Workers hq?

No fucking way, unless we are going to burn it. Entryist scum.

  • Not sure Marx should be remembered fondly either.
For all its faults I'd rather live in this Kingdom than his alternative.

  • Shit ride, if you go up the A2.

    Not a bad point.

Alternative could be a circular route from Greenwich/Blackheath, out to Kent and back, taking in the Pilgrims way.

  • Not sure Marx should be remembered fondly either

The man was a genius, but let's not confuse his work with the actions of Lenin, Trotsky & Stalin. And let's not turn this into a political discussion (perhaps I should delete the comment about the filthy vanguardist vermin :-) )

    That'll be a 120k spin right there.

  • We could, ironically, go to Buckingham Street and visit Rousseau's London residence.

  • ^plan
How about london connections with the philosophers that shaped republicanism?

More, Hobbes, Locke, Paine, Rousseau, Wolstencraft, Mill etc.
Finish at Plato's in Muswell Hill for kebabs.

  • Who invited the fucking political philosophers to this? We need ACTION not words!

  • Bill repped, I fucking love you.

(I too am clearly your motherP)

  • Runnymede and the Magna Carta. Celebrating the first census of Britain, ordered by a conquering French tyrant, to extract as much wealth from the country as possible. On an anti-monarchist ride?

Skully's suggestion of Wat Tyler is good. Canterbury to Blackheath to celebrate the Peasant's Revolt? Approx 60 miles.

I think you are confusing Magna Carta with the Doomsday Boook. Also, William 1 was hardly French. Not in any established meaning of the word.

  • I think that we are witnessing the failure of Republicanism in this country. We cannot unite on a single purpose - getting rid of the monarch - but have to squabble about what comes next.

All I really want by this ride is to avoid all the bs concerning the "royal" wedding and headoff on my bike for the whole day. A theme which lights upon a number of historical moments negati9vely affecting monarchy would be good as would a homage to great thinkers who have inspired people to consider the ludicrous nature of monarchy.

Perhaps I should be a little autoocratic?

Emma Goldman stays. She acted and spoke.

He bloody well was. Just because you don't want to admit that the last successful invasion of this benighted island was by a frog, doesn't make it not true.

No wonder the RAF pounded Caen flat. Trying to cover up the evidence.

  • Who invited the fucking political philosophers to this? We need ACTION not words!

    "What do we want?"
    tumbleweed

  • I think you are confusing Magna Carta with the Doomsday Book.

    Oops....massive fail

    I will do this ride.

  • I´ve made a point of booking the week off, so will be heading in the exact opposite direction of all the sycophantic tits who seem to think it´ll be a good idea to head to London for the duration of the joining of two utterly pointless people.

That said, I´d love to do the ride. The french had a good idea what to do with Royals.

  • Ride to Lewes via the south downs and celebrate Thomas Paine, founding father of the American Republic

Ok, so Blackheath, Canterbury, Lewes... why not just go the whole hog and hop on the ferry at Newhaven, do a long one, and visit the Bastille?

    Wow. Awesome idea.

  • Its a four day long weekend!!!

  • He lived in Lewes at some point, and the local brewery make a beer named after him
