7pm will do, not least because their service isn't fast.
I'm going to book this tonight, because they are popular.

Is this still going ahead on Sunday??? If so Catydid and I are in!
-
• #104
Still going ahead. I'll give them a ring first thing about changing the numbers.

• #105
cool thanks....

Ok, I have had to switch this to the Taqueria. For the larger number, Santo wanted a deposit and for us to eat from a set menu. See you at Westbourne Grove

Scratch that: Santo is back on! Manager rang me, aplologised for staff confusion. Deposits and set menus are for block bookings on Saturday, not Sunday. 8 people, 7pm, confirmed.

The closest decent bicycle parking is in the pedestrianised walkway which runs along the north side of the Westway, between Ladbroke Grove and Portobello Road. You can see a Streetview shot of the Portobello Road entrance to that here. The brick wall on the north side of the walkway has iron rings set very securely into it, spaced so that you should be able to lock both wheels and the frame.
There are some Sheffield stands scattered down Portobello Road; the first few are in a small square just south of the flyover and railway bridge

Shame you can't make it, James!
For everybody else, 7pm, Santo, 299 Portobello Road, W10 5TD.
See you there!

I'll pick a date and will stick it up soon. What do people generally think about Sundays? I know James can't make Wednesdays. I think I'd quite like to do one on a weekday. We could of course usefully combine with a late visit to nearby forum drinks. :)
Great to see you all. I realised I'd had Mexican food before, but not for a long time. The burrito was very good, if a tad too salty.
It's wonderful how many Mexican herbs there are. Bruce mentioned this epazote:

The list rather reminds you of how many great herbs there are, and how few we use.

One of the most important (though not entirely proven) properties of Epazote, which that article doesn't directly mention, is that it is carminative. Very useful thing when your cuisine consists mostly of beans. Also, Carminative is one of those words that probably scores you extra points if you're ever a guest on QI.
I think the best way to make a meal at Santo to work is to co-operate. The Burrito, Quesadilla and Cazuela dishes are all quite large and could easily feed two regular people if they shared some side dishes. Alternatively, go for a taco dish with some sides. The side dishes at a Mexican restaurant are usually well worth exploring (black beans, refried beans, escabeche etc). I'm often puzzled that I can't get people to share side dishes at restaurants; it seems people don't feel they're getting full value unless they overload on mains and big starters.
Anyway, four of us had a really nice meal. Sad you couldn't make it, James and Rascal. Yar boo sucks to Ed and Poots :-P

OK, what would people think about a trip to RASA N16 next?
I'd be happy to look into possible dates.
In two weeks' time?

two weeks time sound good, just need a specific date so I can twist my way out of work.

He he.
