  • thanks andyp, never knew about this.was told by a person that help run it a couple of years ago that they dont allow geared bikes on there cos they cause crashes.i replied to him dont fixed bikes have crashes, yes but we dont talk about them was the reply.would bring in more revenue if they did

  • I think there was a fair turnout, some tri types. Brilliant if you want to observe some very square pedaling and too high saddles.

My personal view is that unless there is a very decent call for the road bike session, that track time is so precious it should be exclusively track bikes only, there's a whole road network and a few closed road circuits for people wanting to ride road. It's not like there's velodromes everywhere.

  • It's not like there's velodromes everywhere.

well, there's one in fucking Newport.

  • would bring in more revenue if they did

Actually the road bike session costs less than the track sessions IIRC, so in fact replacing it with another track session would increase the revenue.

  • Good to see the polo court has made it in, but I think if there is only one court it's not going to get that much use, maybe for a weekly souths session, and the occasional weekend, but not for tournaments, which is where a purpose built polo court would be most useful. If they could integrate another that would make a huge difference.

  • Do you want the moon on a stick too? :-)

Surely the inclusion of a bike polo court is a bloody good start?

I meant to ask (someone or other), are the Tue 'road bike' sessions exclusively for geared bikes, or for anyone that wants an unstructured session?

  • Absolutely, one polo court is better than no court, I'm just saying.

Just because initial aims have been achieved doesn't mean one can't ask for more.

Anyway, just realised this has been discussed to death in the HH Polo thread, and as I've not paid any attention to this up to now, and it turns out they are fully aware of what the polo community want, so I'll just shut up again ;)

Geared bikes. Cos fixed and free on at the same time is deemed dangerous.

Dave used to run them, not sure if the CP tri guys will be willing to take it on...

  • costs were next to nothing for my fixed session,i wouldnt mind paying more fixed or geared sessions.

If everyone's got a brake fitted, I don't really see the difference, but whatever, Tuesdays are spoken for.

  • RPM,your right mate ill stick to the roads

  • Just come to the track sessions :)

  • @reculver - if you don't want a dedicated track bike do you know you can hire a Fuji track for the season for, I think, £30?

  • cant ride fixed, broke me left hip twice and leg is shorter than right, left knee aint too clever.i didnt mean mixing fixed and geared on track at same, but asked cos it would be a blast flying round the track.if you saw me riding from behind i look very uncomfortable cos the saddle is set to the length of my left leg.

  • ideally i need a left crank arm a inch and a half longer than my right

  • That's a shame, most people who ride a bike can ride fixed, we had a guy with one leg doing his induction in the main session one saturday last year. Maybe you would benefit from some bike mods? Apologies if you already have.

  • was the guy who had one leg called jim bush,he has black and yellow hazard tape on his metal leg

  • No, he didn't use an artificial leg at all on the bike, not sure if he had one for general duties

  • jims ridden at herne hill, hes very fit does london to paris, lands end to john ogroats rides with a artificial leg though

  • Plans look good. Some nice ideas.

What we get might be very different though....

  • i'm in the process of moving to this bit of town so its looking really exciting. Will try to get more involved with HH/STV and LFGSS imminently.

Whats the time scale for these plans i didn't spot it in the PDF. Whats the current fundraising situation?

I think the idea was for some multi-use tarmac. We've asked for it to be wide enough for two polo courts - with some removable barriers to seperate them, but then can also be used as a mini/warmup velodrome, cycle training space etc.

There aren't any other closed road circuits within a realistic cycling distance. I think one night a week is fine - I don't think there is demand for any other popular sessions to fill the slot. The session will probably run next year - dependent on someone volunteering their time.

  • I thought the purpose of the public meeting was to save the velodrome not build a new concept.
