[QUOTE=Oliver Schick;1780716]So have you had a bad experience there recently, ziska?
Hi,
no, no personal experience. Touch wood! Just happen to cycle through there every single day. Pretty horrified its happening right on my door step.So many cyclist use that route and most have no clue that this is happening....how can they be warned? I was thinking of spraypainting warnings on the road - sounds funny, but putting up posters in the rain...! Any graffiti artists on here? : P

Basically avoid like the plague: Northchurch Road meeting Culford and Lawford Road.
Its the intersection where the bollads are (no car access and minimal lighting), heading through to DB square and onto Kingsland Road.I used to ride through there every day when me and G first lived together, day and night both of us. Sad to hear its so dangerous now. Keep your heads up kids.

'Bike routes' are by definition not 'traffic-free', as there will be people travelling along there on foot and by bike. Beware of the lazy shorthand that means 'motor traffic-free' when it says 'traffic-free'. It's inaccurate and misleading.
Yes I meant free of motor vehicles, my bad.
The general advice we give as a local LCC group is to go along the main streets after dark when such threats are reported. In the daytime, you'll usually be fine.
I've not heard of any attacks during the day.

It disgusts me that this is still happening. The pigs know about it yet do fuck all. Just round up all the little scum bags that hang around there and shoot them. End of, problem solved

i mailed the police task force mail address again raising this to their attention
isn't it amazing that with all the attention the stakeouts etc the police are still unable to capture / identify thiefs, attacks still keep happening bikes still get lifted ... i blame the lawyers and health and safety legislation -

I cycle down there in the evening and haven't noticed anything.

It's important that people don't keep lumping these attacks and "bike theft" together.
Although there is the possibility of the rider's bikes being taken, this is violent mugging, and needs to be treated as such. Especially where the police are concerned.
Cutting a chain and taking a bike is very different to assaulting a person in the street.

I see it as banditry and we should revert back to the situation whereby they are declared criminal outlaws under common law.

You could just tell the police that these people are Brazilian, and let nature take its course.
I can see it now in The Metro
'Brazilian Street Kids Slaughtered in Dalston'

That kind of respect is sure going to get them on the cyclist side

Respect is earnt

To be fair I'm not sure there has been any suggestion the police aren't taking it seriously - they have already made two arrests. I think the problem here is that despite the arrests they are still taking place, which suggests there are at least two gangs doing it.

cheers for the updated headsup. probably ridden through there by chance one day.
Painting the road/cycle way 'watch out - pikies about' is probably the best thing you can do to alerting random riders.

Perish the thought that the police have a statutory duty to perform.
Need to get these two on the case

Ummm there were 3 policemen out there last night on motorcycles, sitting in the rain at 11pm doing nothing...apart from warning all the cyclist biking through the area and possibly preventing further attacks.

TBH thats about all they can do. they can' realistically stand on every streetcorner for weeks on end on the off chance they come back, and with such a presence chances are they'd never form up.

they need those cctv camera's on poles that have little wipers and swivel round, then a fat man in a monitor room can keep track of any scallies and zoom in on yummy mummies taking baths in their million pound houses
Max, if they thought that you might ride along there, they just wouldn't risk it. ;)
