I'm putting together my own blng wheels.
I found some nice looking 48mm OEM carbon rims. Not as cheap as the standard EBay jobbies, but if the discription holds true, they should be really nice. Just ordered them, as well as some lovely Tune hubs. Going with internal nipples and triplet rear lacing so will need to do some serious number crunching before ordering some CX-ray spokes. Should come in at arond 1.3 Kg the pair.
Could have gone lighter, but only by using uber weight weenie hubs with teeny weenie bearings, and/or Ti spokes (very expensive).

Done this fixed two years in a row now.
Was fecking orrible at the top this year, temps just below zero, icey fog, and raining sideways. Could'nt run or cycle properly for weeks after.
I'd stick to southern europe if I was you.
It's actually as a direct result of you climbing it last year that I even know it exists. Thanks. -

Got a little money to burn,
thought about putting a set of carbon wheels on my fixie steel fameinterested in views on whether it's worth the expense?
will I notice any difference?

if they give you a warm glow inside when you look at them or another fixie-skidder rider comments on your bling wheels, flattering your ego and reinforcing your own sense of self worth, then they are worth every penny.

well worth the money. you can drill them out too to make them even lighter

Which ones?
Carbon usually = tub. Tub and skidding is a mega fucking no-no
Carbon clinchers are ok but you can't run tires higher than 100 psi which is a bit wank.

• #109
surely if you like carbon you should get a carbon frame first... ?
-
• #110
will you notice any difference?
Depends on what you have now and what you are planning to buy (neither of which you have stated)
-
• #111
will I notice any difference?
In ride quality?
Depends on the build and the dethp of the rims.
In weight?
Depends on how heavy your current wheels are and how light the new ones are.
Its a bit tricky to comment on the difference betweent two things we have zero details for.

Hmmmm. should have typed faster, Kerley you buggerlug!

i am guessing its not about weight or performance, its purely about fixie hipsterism and making it look bling

I'm sure there's a little hipster lying low in all of us.
Is the benefit of carbon just in terms of weight. In which case as has been pointed out I might as well save and get a complete carbon frame.
Or is there a handling adv to carbon?
I was thinking of enve 65 clinchers. -

ask them to get out of your arse.

Problem with full carbon clinchers is if you flat explosively and are unable to stop quickly your v. expensive Enve rims will be at high risk of serious damage.
Seeing Dura Ace C50 CL rim spares being sold separately on Ebay would possibly lead me to ask a shop/wheel builder whether they could rustle something up with something like custom drilled Royce hubs

I was thinking of enve 65 clinchers. You will notice weight dropped from your wheels more than from your frame. Rotational weight counts twice.
65mm is pretty deep for road use. You will experiance some aero benifits at high speed, allowing you to maintain these speeds slightly easier. But this energy saved, will likely be used up fighting crosswinds anyway.
I'd go with the 45's.

Want to upgrade my roadbike and was thinking the easiest way to get some carbon wheels.
I don't know much about wheels but I like the look of these - any thoughts?

that may be so - but most of us just buy deep v's to satisfy that. Fuck having carbon rims on London's potholes! It's about to be winter too, you'll ruin them in a couple of months just from water and grit - even if you don't break them..
carbon wheels are pretty much the last thing I would EVER want to buy for an about town fixed gear
