What was your worst/standard punishment as a child?

Possibly this thread will develop in to a discussion of corporal punishment. It'll be about half an hour in before the most violent, angry, intolerant people on the forum show up top say "I was beaten when I was a kid and it never did me no harm".

It's very hard to theorize about disciplining children unless you have children yourself.
You don't know what you'd do in any given situation, and I do think that hitting kids is generally done as a gut reaction by stressed out parents, and justified with the label of necessary punishment.

I hate super nanny.

Also as soon as the cameras are off, they are back to being themselves. Apparently, it's called entertainment.

Supernanny is a TV SHOW. The results are heavily, heavily edited, to make stupid people believe that just a few changes and a few weeks, will turn around seriously emotionally damaged children.

Tiswas, the framework would be one of love and nurturing. Discipline would be instilled based on a child trusting and loving their parent. As I said, there should be different levels of punishment......and none of it should ever be meted out in anger. That's known as abuse.

supernanny was an example. but i am sure there are technique's that fuckwits like you can learn to avoid beating a child.

Tiswas, my Grandad was the strict one at home, and I remember the slaps I got from him. He took no joy in it, and even though I was young, I could see how sad he was. I loved my Grandad with all the love I had, and I still miss him. He was protective, loving, and a hell of an educator. A great parent.

That was discipline in a framework of love and trust.

you're right, it doesn't make me look nearly as strong as beating children. but i smoke, so that makes up for it.

There are other means of disciplining children that are just as effective and don't teach kids that violence is an effective method of getting your own way.

+1 I think you are completely and utterly wrong GA2G with a thankfully very outdated attitude to parenting, however I do not see why you should be called a fuckwit for it, you are entitled to your opinion.
