  • It occurred to me that the more of us there are the easier the ride will be. We will split into groups and provided we all look after each other and meet up @ Matching Green then this will work. I will lead you out to High Beach and then take over as back stop.

    See you at 9.00

  • I have come to a decision! I will hate myself more if I don't even attempt tomorrow rather than attempt and not even get off the starting block. So...

I'm going to cycle to the meeting point. If I feel able to continue I'll come as far as High Beach but no further.
If I don't feel able to ride then I will be there to wave you all off.

It also means that if I continue and am a hinderance then you won't have to worry about me being annoying for very long.

See you all in the morning.

  • unfortunately i'm out.
moving out of my current place into the storage and keep hunting for a room.
you can come visit me - i'll be under the bridge in the carton box.

  • Last club run I was on there seemed to be no distinction between "up" and "down", people would seeming use them interchangably, which was rather confusing, to say the least!

What happens when you're on a hill and "car up" (car coming from behind) is logically "car down" (car coming from below)?

Admittedly, this is a late contribution to this discussion, but when I was on a Lea Valley CC club run a couple of months ago, one of the older guys explained the "up/down" thing (which I'd not heard in rides with other clubs) to me in these terms: "up" means from behind because it's like the car (or van or whatever) is coming up your arse, whereas "down" means from the front because it's like the vehicle is coming down your throat.

Not sure whether this is actually where it's from, but the guy seemed pretty sincere, as though he were passing cycling lore on to the next generation, and, to be fair, there is a certain logic to it.

    OUT!!!! Its a fuckin conspiracy........

  • Should add that I will be out if it is raining.

  • I was told on wednesday I might go blind in one eye within a few days. By thursday that had been reduced to 'you will be fine'. So I'm back in. To hell with the rain.

  • I'll be there even if it's raining. Not sure if I decide to ride out if it's a downpour, though. It should be OK.

Supposedly it will rain lightly for four hours only. Hopefully not between 9AM and 2PM.

  • Unfortunately work has exploded and I will now be spending my saturday in front of a computer in battersea :-( Hope to try to do this ride (or similar) some other weekend while the leaves are pretty.

  • Sorry to hear that, look out for the Glendene Jumble ride next month ....

  • just in from work
Alarm set if I don't make the start will try and catch you all up

  • In - leaving now

  • Leaving now. Still 2 minutes left to spare. Wait up!

  • Just got back - didn't go back to pub.
Sorry that I didn't say goodbye to you all. Had a nice little ride. The weather was just a little colder than I had planned for but still managed to keap warm(ish). Very lucky with the weather - just one shower at the pub/lunch stop and a few spits and spots on the way home in Ponders End.

Sorry I'm so crap at remembering names but cheers to Jimm? (from S.Korea) for the pint, and thanks to the rest of you for making it an enjoyable little jaunt into the wilds of Essex.

Also, (nearly forgot) a big chappeau to Peter Carter for organising and rounding everyone up, and to Wools for his backstop duties.

  • Yes, thanks to Peter Carter and Wools, great ride.

Same goes for me, it went on longer than I had planned and with Mrs M waiting for me I had to get home. Great to meet and ride with you all.

  • Moral of the ride - don't ask a Walthamstow native how to get to central London - they will not know. Lovely rolling with you all.

  • I had a lovely day definitely, luckily the weather was nice and sunny though it was wee bit colder than I expected (thank god I was wearing a barbour jacket)

Good to meet you all, thanks to Peter Carter for organizing this amazing ride today and another big thanks to Wools and Ziska for being great marshall!

  • Really enjoyed this, as my first forum ride (for a few years anyway!) and a great welcome back to London with a way to get back out of London again should the mood strike.

  • Thanks to everyone for brilliant company. Special thanks to Peter for organising.

I was so cold and tired, that I fell asleep straight away once home. I've just only woken up.

  • Same as above^
I was only meant to have a short nap...
Had a great time, proper laugh. Especially liked the wildlife.

  • And the roundabout trauma

  • ^ what was the "roundabout trauma"?

  • im assuming he means the laps of the roundabout we did
