If we see you overtaking do we shout 'weapon'? In homage to the zipp obviously!
-
• #128
what if there's oil on the road? Do we shout "car up"?
No, you shout: 'Do a skid!'

If you're going to pass on warnings about cars then please specify whether the car is 'up' or 'back'. Just calling out 'car' doesn't mean much to anyone. Just saying. :)
-
• #139
Or 'oil' or whatever you want to use instead of 'car'. The point I'm making is about saying where the possible danger is coming from. I'm done now. :)

Oil up = car coming from behind.
Oil down = car coming towards you.
-
• #141
I find that confusing, not because of the oil but because up/down seem to be the wrong way round.
Pretty much the same thing here, man flu + recovery fail, going to have to see how I feel but not sure any riding tomorrow is a good idea for me =(

I can't believe I'm carrying on this debate but what can I say - I've eaten a maaaassive burrito and I'm not planning on this afternoon being very productive.
I've never been on a club run before so I have no idea what goes on in them spheres but 'oil up' sounds more complicated than it has to be, no? It's not my ride so I'm not going to call the shots or owt. I guess it's what you're used to at the end of the day but 'car up' and 'car down' seems a bit more instinctive. Which, I guess, is what you want if you're trying to warn people of dangers quickly.

Last club run I was on there seemed to be no distinction between "up" and "down", people would seeming use them interchangably, which was rather confusing, to say the least!
What happens when you're on a hill and "car up" (car coming from behind) is logically "car down" (car coming from below)?

what have I started?

I don't care much what is called: up, down, oil or car ; it's just what Lea Valley CC say on their club runs. Ask BMMF, he's been on a few.
I only really care that people look out for each other on saturday.

Now that I can agree with! :)
