  • Glad I stuck with my lowly 10 speed now :-)

Harsh Jayg. Too much awesome power is the only possible explanation.

  • 11-25, nice to have the 11 with compact.

Yes, but does it have an 18?

  • Just out of interest I had a look at SR cassettes; £230 for a cassette that weighs 24g more than a SRAM Red casette costing £150. WTF???

  • Yes, but does it have an 18?

No, I thought it did but it doesn't.

    11-12-13-14-15-16-17-19-21-23-25

  • Time to make the leap...

    ftfy

  • Having no 18t is a fucking nightmare. Yuck.

I can't take 11t cogs seriously, except maybe on a mtb with a 44t big ring. If it wasn't for the stupid lockring predicament, I'd be advising a close ratio 12-up. Even a 12 is a bit stupid.

  • @ Hippy - My next grouppo will be DA... the leccy version though.

Dependant of course on just how good the SRAM Super-Red groupset is

  • Are these numbers correct? I have the 11-25 as 11,12,13,14,15,17,18,19,21,23,25 here
I quite like my 18. 17,18,19 gives me a nice range in the big(ish) ring.

    I used competativecyclist http://www.competitivecyclist.com/road-bikes/product-components/2010-campagnolo-chorus-11-cassette-5270.22.1.html

Which is usually a decent source. 50:18 is 73 GI, so its right around the sweet spot for a lot of cyclists. So I can see the predicament.

  • Just to wade in on the warranty issues and the UK. My experiences with Velotech (who manage Campy's warranty business here in the UK) have been that they do an outstanding job of getting riders back on the road asap- I tend assume that where there has been a massive delay there may have been other factors at play- like the holy month of August when Italians are not allowed to work.

Most retailers would tend to replace this sort of failed item immediately and then sort it out with their supplier- even if there is a minor cash flow issue around this- (i.e. their supplier taking a few days or weeks to get the part or cash back to them).

I'd consider that for a bling TT machine but not for a normal road bike. You've seen how I treat my bikes..

    Lucky it isn't August. Wait...

    Why am I so impatient?

  • most of us are slightly ocd and also have the patience of kids on blue sweets

also our bikes give us such great pleasure that when something is not working we want to fix it so we can go out and ride more

i fucking love the interwebz for fast delivery of bike parts, but will happily pay full rrp at an lbs for a part right now (or go to a chain and get to the counter and google the part and demand price match)

  • Campag never fails to disappoint...

High on bikes will do a Chorus cassette and Record chain for £134, buy a 11-25. Minus £6 if you go for Chorus chain.

11 cogs... gotta be worth it.
£230 is cheap-most places were doing them for £300 +

  • Chorus cassette is more durable than the SR, heavier though :)

  • That's why this thread is about one exploding. How many of those SRAM cassettes have died this way?

I thought we had concluded that this was an unfortunate side effect of the awsome power of campag users.

I have some expensive campag compatible hubs being delivered today so l am commited. Spent a fair amount of time considering sram though. Not convinced the hoods fit my chubby mitts, but shifting is impressive stuff.

  • No, we have concluded that this is an unfortunate side effect of not listening to me.
Buy Campag at your peril. Shimano FTMFW.

  • My Dura-Ace has brought me back to the Shimano side, it's faultless. But if I was to fit a lower spec, I would look at SRAM. I hated 105, could not trust it, but a Rival groupset gave me no issues over 3 years heavy use.

SRAM prices quite reasonable at Fudges cycles http://www.fudgescyclestore.com/

  • has this been resolved yet?

  • Aeththetics ain't worth shit when the bike is left hanging on the wall due to a broken part ;-)

  • has this been resolved yet?

Sent the stuff back to Ribble yesterday and bought a replacement 12-25 and lockring.

Patience is a virtue. I am not virtuous.

  • One stupid thing that bugs me about the SRAM Red groupset is that is has red bloody squares over the place. OK 95% of modern plastic roadies are black, red, and white. But still.

Shimano has a duty to keep its groupsets ugly. Shimano users pride themselves on valueing function over form.

Campagnolo stuff just looks fantastic. I love the curves of the new Ergo levers, and reserve the right to deny my shallness and quote rebuidability at every opertunity.

    this post contains no generalisations

  • aeththetics is the only important factor, when the bike is hanging on the wall.

    ftfy

    Reason has no place here.
