  • Booked the Wednesday off work!

  • Just a reminder to all those who are volunteering... I need your real names for your passes.

If you haven't sent me your real names, please do so soon.

I also need you to confirm when you are able to help out, though that's less important than having the real names for the passes.

  • xx

  • Just looked at the list.
    Moar wimmin needed imo.

    Is polo happening?

  • we're posting the progress over here

yes we can trawl flickr, but if you want PERSONAL credit (ie. to be named) then email the shots over as above. And not everyone uses flickr (most images we've received so far have not been on flickr).

  • Polo stand .

One sign that will read: No Polo no Talk.

  • Best idea yet.

    • we will have tinnies.

We do need more of the ladies. But that's up to them to step forward.

I'm not sure polo is happening as no-one contacted me for contact details, so unless someone contacted the Cycle Show directly I don't believe anyone in the polo community did anything about it.

    • we will have tinnies.

Open secret: There will be a crate or two of tinnies on the stand to help the staff survive.

However, none can be given to non-staff as I'm not getting a drinks license, these would be personal use only and I will have to be a meanie and refuse to share.

Summary: If you're not working on the stand, bring your own tinnies.

  • dibs

  • As far as I know there will be no specific cycle training stand or reps at the show so would it be possible to make room on our stand for a few bits of cycle training info; postcards, that kind of thing? Me and Skydancer can provide CTUK stuff and no doubt MultiGrooves can get hold of Bikeworks stuff.

  • Working on the polo side.
Apparently it's not too late as they're keen to have us at the show.

Nhatt stepped up but is away at the moment. When do you need defo numbers?

    tinnies ftw.
    Please no Stella.

Not a problem, and yes sure.

Decide in what form you'd like to present this as the walls are taken already so it's looking like it will have to be flyers, postcards, etc.

If you're one of you is around to staff it then even better, probably don't have to worry too much about the trade day as for the cycle training you'll be mostly aiming at punters on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday I imagine.

I'd need both your full names for passes ASAP.

Fantastic, and I've got Nhatt's real name somewhere so I'll put her down.

I need the names for the exhibitor passes today, deadline it today though I'm holding off and submitting it tomorrow.

Given the rest of the costs I'm going to have no problem splashing money on something nice like Tennants ;)

Nah, people can agree on a preference closer to the date.

  • I have sent you a PM

  • the polo community

    There's a community?
I am imagining a load of wigwams set up inside various ball-courts.

  • The polo indigenous tribes?

I'm going to call time on anything else going on the stand very soon. Exceptions will only be made for things close to the heart of the community now as I'm starting to realise how over-brimming it's going to be, which is ace, but has it's own problems in securing it at night.

The invasion plans thread (also a sticky) has the list of everything currently planned, and if your thing is on that list then you're safe and sound. If not, you'll have to let me know ASAP.

  • Just a thought but do we really want to accentuate the fact that more than 50% of browsing is done at work ;o)

  • It's just part of the demographic data, and it's not secret either... any look at the homepage will reveal 900+ people online and a peak of 1,100... so at most points during the day we're between 80-90% of the peak. That's plain for everyone to see.

  • Typical LFGSS person is a childless male with no college education aged around 30 and who spends his working day browsing the internet.

    That does sound attractive ;o)

  • The demographics are relative to the internet average.

If you want to affect them then download the Alexa toolbar: http://www.alexa.com/toolbar

I'll update the info with September's data on the eve of the show.

  • Wait, what? How'd you get that data?

  • Alexa are a company that have a large number of users whom install the Alexa toolbar.

When the toolbar is installed the users are asked: What sex are you? How much do you earn? What's your education level? Are you at work or home?

Then alexa watch what people do on the internet, and compile a league of all sites they see.

If they don't know enough about a site (our case), then Alexa simply extrapolate the numbers and make a best guess.

Their best guess is way off, but because they have millions of installed toolbars even their way off best guesses are trusted more than me giving actual stats from Google Analytics (which doesn't include demographics by the very nature of the anonymous aggregation they use).

The only way to correct their best guess is to use the alexa toolbar, which in turns give them more info about other stuff we look at and improves their game.

Alternatively you can view it as spyware, as it's basically only able to compile the league and extrapolated demographics from observing what millions of people are doing.

None of the demographics are fuelled directly by LFGSS data, no LFGSS data is disclosed in any way (besides, I don't know that stuff... I don't even know which of you are boys or girls). Alexa are able to do what they do by observing people who installed the toolbar and agreed to be observed and then making stab in the dark guesses from the data that they collect.

  • I've never even heard of this Alexa toolbar, and I'm on the internet a lot.

  • toolbars are for tools
