  • A wrestling ring and then have the LFGSS royal rumble that's been talked about many times.

  • How about this, I'm thinking we go minimal with a Tynan quote and a glory hole (we can take it in turns to 'man' it). Just a thought....

  • Awesome.
I'm happy to help out also, It might be nice to have a woman represent to show that it's not entirely male orientated / chauvinistic / cock fighting in here (cough), and I haz the hat the t-shirt (It's all about the ride) and a polo bike (that doesn't say faffa or anything similar on it).

Or I can just make the tea / fetch the beers for the strong worldly male folk.

  • ha ha! ^

All sounds good apart from the cottaging bit.

John H's question is on the money - I'm a marketing manager in the real world and people are always coming to me all excited with ideas, the two questions are always:

    • Who are you trying to reach?
    • What are you wanting them to do?
  • How about showing videos/slideshows from some of the forum rides/events in the background somewhere?

  • Good idea. A video/slideshow/photos would show the range and scale of what lfgss is about without taking up loads of space.

  • Some pics from rides might be a good idea, to show the veriety of people/bikes etc and how much fun it all is!
    Edit: Too slow. sigh.

  • we should probably make copies of this thread.
just so everyone knows what we're about.

  • A geared bike?

    :]

    Oh...and a sewing machine!

  • Just stick edscoble on a podium

good idea. surely it would be good to have a space which is kind of about just riding your bike and ignoring the marketing wank as much as possible. Also have our posters, t-shirts, forum related goodies, but also just encouraging people to enjoy riding and being part of a cycling community? Guess it might be quite hard to put that in a stand...

Just stick edscoble on a plinth

    this will work

also include some pics from forum rides, from mobile phones, perhaps some extracts from hilarious threads (bikes and animals one springs to mind...)

Oh and adverts about upcoming rides, surely?

  • photocopy them and hand them out, lol

we should probably make copies of this thread.
just so everyone knows what we're about.

  • Joking aside, I'd help out. It's only down the road from me.

  • Not a bad idea - I know from experience that the Cycle Show are often willing to give free stands to media outlets in return for coverage/ads.

Not sure how keen they'd be on using LFGSS but you can only ask - they're nice people.

  • It absolutely must feature 'artwork' from draw your own collisions. Maybe someone could donate a real poo?

  • [serioussuggestions]

Skoota's Polo Manual film is a good introduction.

Wigan Will's poster? Or show his images as a slide show?

What about some forum stats to align the walls? i.e. rise in numbers over the last couple of years. Tynan to illustrate.

    • anyone who hasnt before thought about getting involved in a tight community in londons famous london which is notorious for people not talking to each other.
    • buy t-shirts, interact, sign up, contribute, donate, bring worth to the forum. the wider the community the wider the set of skills, the buying power, bigger rides.
  • Well I've sent an email enquiring as to the price for a 3m x 4m stall slap bang in the middle of everything. I'll let you know what response I get.

  • we need a slide show of Scobalisms somewhere on the stall

  • and free access for 'members' of LFGSS :-)

Oh and wicksie - you can get me a beer any time! (i would of course repay you in kind so if anyone doesnt understand we are friends that may thinkk that chauvenistic;-) )

  • think it will be proper pricey based on work experience of this kind of stuff, will be interested to hear though

happy to help out in any way I can too

    • Who are you trying to reach?
    • What are you wanting them to do?

    For me personally:

To #1, people like us that don't know what we're on about and don't see themselves as the kinda person interested in an online community even though they clearly are interested in everything we're interested in and they would like to know more people into the same shit.

To #2, to have those people register and use the forum.

Why? Because the forum is going through a little bit of a transformation and has for much of this year been slightly profitable (when factoring in donations, sponsorship in the first few months, shirts, caps, etc). We're getting some of our money from affiliate schemes and more users will equate to an increase in that revenue, and we're about to re-design to include some adverts for businesses within the community and that will guarantee profitability and so I want the forum to be as attractive as possible (numbers-wise) to those within the community who would consider advertising.

There's tons of spare resource on the servers... so I want the site to be busier so we get value for money (profitable off of what we've got, rather than scraping a survival off of what we've got).

The side-effect is that by highlighting the whole community I believe that I'll achieve the above, and that I can do good by the rest of the community by giving them a shared platform to show off what they're doing. Especially the small businesses that have sprung up because of the community, and the polo crowd who it would be great to secure a load of publicity for so that they have more choice when they seek sponsors for events.

So really... just promote the hell out of the fact that we exist and that we're here to stay and that we're nothing like everyone else and that the community is a strong voice for the community (that we don't need to be sponsored by someone else to have that voice).

  • banned for selling out to The Man

joke, but cue discussion of corporate sponsorship blah blah Barclays zzz
