#thinksaboutmakingajokedecidesbestnot
... despite never really talking about it most men respect other men, whilst women despite talking about girl power and stuff actually mostly dislike other women... Or maybe that's a heap of bullshit... But I've heard a lot of women saying they don't really like the company of other women, I've never heard a man saying he doesn't like the company of other men...This reminded me of a sentence from an article I read the other week which stuck in my head for some reason:
"Misogyny is such a strong substance that women have absorbed and internalised it."

Seems to me that 3 or 4 of these incidents are pure misogyny, the comments directed at her for being a woman and using cycling as the excuse. It would be interesting to know what the women on the forum think.
I'm liking this blog. A lot.
That's not all misogyny though, there's the twat whose emotional development never made it past 14yrs old (guy in convertible who probably still twangs bra straps), trying to get her attention by insulting her.
Where she has had abuse, it just sounds like redirected anger from repressed homosexuality anyway.
BTW, is it true her internet name is DancingDawn?

Wankers in convertibles are great, pull alongside driver, grab keys toss 'em in drain/bush/dogpoo (delete as applicable)

Personally, I'd pull the hood up if I was gonna knock one out

Wankers in convertibles are great, pull alongside driver, try to grab keys, but forget that they need to be turned to pull them out, then scream in pain as the driver grabs the chinstrap on your helmet and smashes your face repeatedly against the top of the windscreen/quarterlight/door sill(delete as applicable)
i took the liberty of slightly amending that for you, to make it a little bit closer to what would happen in reality.

I'll always ask a cyclist with a p*ncture if they need help - It does get some odd responses though.
It comes from that internal conflict of wanting to feel as self sufficient as a bicycle is supposed to make you and wanting to sit back and relax while a kind samaritan fixes your problem for you.

Well that's the first half, the other is "this is London, some fucker around here's gotta be so desperately lonely they'll do this shit for me".

had a great exchange with wanker in a convertible yesterday, he had driven up my arse, undertook me etc only for me to catch him at the next 3 sets of lights
first lights he calls me a wanker
next set I asked "have you never masturbated?"
3rd set he abuses me for being a "cunt on a bike". my response "despite your aggressive shit driving I am still here, and while i get fitter on my way home, you will remain a fat cunt"

I guess she got a new version of her old bike so we will all get to read her updates soon.
*In the end, sentimentality won out. I bought a better version of my stolen bike on eBay and hope to be both cycling and recording idiots again soon.

Ah, glad she's sorted ^ then.
Have to say though I am amazed at the levels of truly obnoxious sexism she's facing. Is it really like this on the road for the ladies, any of ours care to comment?
It's really sad and pretty repulsive :(

yes - verbally anyway
Don't really fancy posting about it on here though because someone will probably tell me that I'd get "lucky saddle" less if I rode in the primary position more often, or something.

You can't underestimate the subconcious hatred some people have of cylists and cycling.
On Monday morning I was trying to get a
BorisKen bike from a stand by Charing Cross which wasn't working. I was on the phone to the call centre to see if there was a problem with my key or something and another bloke was stood beside me waing to see what they said.A painter and decorater in a van then drove past and shouted "Fucking cyclist cunts!" at us whilst we stood there, not on bikes just near bikes in shoes, shirt and tie with not even a helmet between us.
I thought it was hilarous at the time but christ what is going on in your head that the sight of someone just standing near a techno bike rack can send you off on one??

Yes.
Some of what Felicity tells me she experiences is pretty out there. It's really not uncommon for people to shout things at her, and she's on occasions had cars slow and shadow her for a while, guys on the cycle lane try to grab her and obstruct her (Hanger Lane cycle lane as the road there is narrow and it's a enough of a hill to slow you down).
It's pretty damn bad, and this is West where it's relatively peaceful in comparison to stories I've heard from those South and East. I've no idea what North London is like as no-one has told me first-hand anything about there, but I work on the assumption that this shit is everywhere.
Not that this is unique to cycling, and not necessarily wanting to turn it into a feminist thread, but this is just reflective of a very significant societal problem. The delicacy that people have towards others religion is not shown towards their sex, and it still seems to be acceptable behaviour enough that men think nothing of the effect of how they treat women.
So yes... this shit happens everywhere. And women are treated like shit a hell of a lot. It sucks, really sucks.
:)
