Because of the predatory nature of some men, which I think is exacerbated in the case of men who are driving, because anthropologically they might subconsciously see the car as being higher up some imagined foodchain than the bike.
I'll admit I've not seen any research on the subject.

Re: the comment about getting abuse depending on what kind of bike you're riding. I completely agree. I see more people getting driven very close to or general stick from drivers who are riding hybrids or brompton kind of bikes. I just stare drivers in the eye if they give me hassle and it seems to work.

doubt it being the type of bike that get you abused, I couldn't see any difference between riding a 20" shopper, a road bike, and a dutch-style bicycle.

I had a go on a Boris Bike the other week. Pedestrians and all manner of vehicles gave me a wide berth, presumably because it's akin to a tank.
Has she even said she wants a free forum bike? Sorry if I missed something.
Remarkable generosity once again. I don't care what people say, this forum is great. -

Can't she get her own bike?
Her bike cost her a fiver, and she couldn't afford to fix a chain which kept coming off, so i doubt it!

that so many men stop to help a damo in distress?
Why not indeed?

You are rght it's not really relevant, nor is it very well put... One of those things I probably shouldn't have posted...
It was just a conversation that seemed to make sense at the time, but now I look back on it, it's probably just an extended generalisation based on two peoples perspectives...
I'm just trying to understand why people of one gender would get shouted at more than the other... Because at the moment I don't understand.
