  • I can't see it... can you point it out.

  • Ha, I thought he was just a bit weird.

  • ^^Capture a screenshot tab hehe.

And Firefox, really James!? Chrome is the one.

  • The one for letting Google inspect not only what you browse but how you browse it.

Firefox is more of a sprawl of a project but I prefer its extensibility, tbh. Better plug-ins, more powerful framework for creating them. But Chrome does us all a favour by forcing everybody else to raise their game.

  • Aw man... I don't have the heart. Just tricked DJ into re-posting spam after I banned the spammer, but it only stands to reason that I should ban the spammer, and now that's DJ ;)

    Sorry... I'll unban now.

  • The point I was trying to make with the "I don't see it"... is that it's never worth quoting or even paying attention to spam, let alone mentioning it in here... its' fate is sealed, it will be deleted.

Just hit report, nothing else. The more people who report spam, the quicker I'm likely to think it's a major issue and drop everything to nuke it.

But once nuked, there's really no point having quoted posts, discussions, or other stuff lingering around.

    Report spam, nothing else.

  • CEO now you've turned evil..

    I like it.

  • I did see that post though but just thought it was someone recently in from a night clubbing. Didn't realise they were flogging stuff. I am tired.

  • CEO = Chief Evil Overlord?

  • I prefer "Benevolent Dictator", although as that abbreviates to BD it could be confusing.

My post has been deleted, do I need to post it again?

  • trolling the troller of trolls

  • Which can be sung to the tune of "Follow the Yellow Brick Road". We troll, we troll, we troll, we troll, we trolllllllllllllllll....

  • Can they be banned? And ip blocked?

  • It'll happen once Velocio catches all the reports that will have been flooding in. Tomorrow it'll be just a fuzzy memory.

  • Yes, but Velocio and Hippy are either out partying or they're asleep

  • Together?

  • It's a possibility

  • And this is what happens? We need to put a stop to it.

  • I was asleep, but the first thing I do is check the forum when I wake.

Banned the spammer, nuked the 144 spam posts, submitted the spammer and one alias to some internet blacklists (which performs the IP ban for us, but also applies it to another 500+ forums).

The much much harder thing is cleaning up the stuff you guys posted.

Example: Dancing James re-quoted the spam in it's entirety on 2 occasions, and another 5 people quoted a few lines from the spam.

When spam gets nuked it should get nuked from high heaven... there should be a large crater and no trace of the spam.

Nuking a spammer is piss easy. Trivial. But to go through and selectively nuke this line in that post, etc... that's hard, that takes time, that's manual.

So please, for the love of all things NJS, please never ever quote a spammer. At all, not even a part of their post.

And remember that once I've dealt with it, all of your posts are going to look daft. So you needn't even respond... do you think the spammer cares? Just hit report, move on. It will be dealt with, though at 2am you can rightly expect it might be the next day... it sure as hell won't get beyond 24 hours though.

I've still got to go around and find the last pieces that you've all quoted, and I've banned DJ to stop him posting the spam again in the meantime (I mean seriously, I tried to make that point literally yesterday!).

  • It's now dealt with.

I had to delete about another 25 posts from forumengers that mentioned the spammer, as well as a couple of profile messages on the spammers' profile that repeated all or part of the spam.

Please, never ever quote a spammer, ever.

In fact, don't give them the privilege of having their username/spam message appear in the posts of regular users.

Slag them off, do what you want... just don't actually mention them, as that is helping to preserve their spam in a way that they cannot otherwise achieve.

  • I thought I'd made a new friend

  • "...We need to put a stop to it."

    "I was asleep..."

    How convenient...

does this include nursery avoiders? Only reason I ask is I think that having evidence for future possible avoiders is a lesson. Like a hangman on a road intersection before a town. A warning. Or should I just avoid quoting them as well?
