So I can be openly racist provided I pretend I'm dumb and apologise later?
This place is not what it used to be.
I think it's quite simple--if he hasn't got it, he will undoubtedly reoffend. If he's just biting his lip being a hypocrite, then he may well snap at some point. I suppose an apology would not be so easy to accept if that happens. If he has got it and learned his lesson, why not unban him?And of course LFGSS is not what it used to be. Not so much in not making the ban permanent (David has always said that he doesn't like banning people), but also in how the people you're talking about are very young, perhaps school age, certainly younger than the youngest LFGSS members six years ago. We have lots of active members that age now, while many older members have started families. I'm not going to defend the use of 'gay' as a pejorative, but I get the feeling that some of the childish petulance we have got recently is a bit 'not old enough to know better'.
Anyway, I couldn't possibly pass up this opportunity to sound old and patronising, so there you go.

That's hardly an excuse.
For the sake of being clear I reported a post of your which was obviously intended as a joke but I find mocking homophobia at the expense of a homophobic person to be just as distasteful as the original act.
It is also not my place to remind the offender of anything. I'll leave that for Velocio.

Sorry to be a pain but does apologising for homophobia make it okay and thus forgivable?
Seems like an easy get out for a whole load of bigotry.
Yes.So I can be openly racist provided I pretend I'm dumb and apologise later?

No."that's a bit gay", is hardly Uganda is it? You weren't a prick as a youth and got pulled up?

If you're looking for an opportunity to demonstrate your liberal credentials, the "Vince is on Take Me Out" thread is tying itself in knots over gender stereotypes.

It's definitely not an excuse, that's not what I meant by that, just an example of how LFGSS has changed. Also, people make mistakes, and it can often be very helpful if they're pulled up on them at a young age. I know I made enough stupid mistakes at that sort of age, and as I've said before I'm glad the Internet wasn't around then to document them for the foreseeable future.
For the sake of being clear I reported a post of your which was obviously intended as a joke but I find mocking homophobia at the expense of a homophobic person to be just as distasteful as the original act.
It's certainly consistent to do that. I will readily admit to having found the classic thread mocking the use of 'gay' as a pejorative (Tweed cycling Fashion Victims) a lot of fun, one of my favourite threads ever, but I suppose the parodies didn't constantly repeat the offending word.
It is also not my place to remind the offender of anything. I'll leave that for Velocio.
Sure, that's what I meant.

This place is not what it used to be.Not really what I meant, he was more like an old dear calling someone a coloured chap than an EDL member kicking a non-white's head in, it's wrong and should be challenged, but if you can't learn from your mistakes then what's the point in challenging this kind of behaviour in the first place?

I have zero interest in reading the greater forum. I do read this thread as people leave messages pertaining to the forum I moderate.I believe I've already addressed your "youth" statement.

Relating to your last post age still shouldn't come into it. Racism is racism irrespective of who's saying it. Same goes for sexism, homophobia et al.
-
• #14185
When I was a teenager, I threw that word around as a joke, I wasn't homophobic in the sense of believing that homosexual have no place in the world, but used the word as an insult to other.
It was only later on I realised the gravity of what I've said as I have never given it much thought, my only regret is not realising it sooner.
I believed that his apologise is valid, and hoping he genuinely will learn from his mistake.

Same, at around 13 everyone and everything was gay, I stopped chucking it around before others my age did but I never meant it in an overtly homophobic manner, I was just ignorant at the time. My 3 year old commented on an asian guy's funny accent, I'm sure other kids have said much worse, is that still unforgivable?
-
• #14187
I'm not even sure that the modern pejorative usage of 'gay' has anything to do with homophobia, the language has moved on and all the old farts who think the 12 year olds who are using it have given even the slightest though to same sex attraction when doing so are almost certainly reading far more into it than is ever really there.
You're probably fighting the same losing battle against language evolution that old farts in the 1940s fought against the appropriation of 'gay' as a simile for homosexual.

That's just what a milksop would say.

Velocio has always said that the forum members set the tone of what's acceptable. I'm putting my line in the sand for his consideration.
Fighting any form if bigotry will likely be a losing battle as people will always like their own tribe more that someone else's.

• #14190
Is being gay a tribe?

Quite the most crass thing I have recently read. You can't see the difference between JSSR and his juvenile vernacular and actual homophobia?
Lock 'em up an throw away the key, right?
As a gay man, you surely have more pressing concerns than vilifying some kid repeating what he heard on Top Gear?

• #14192
That's your line in the sand.
It's best we let Velocio decide what action, if any, is required as none of us are going to change our options based on anything said in this thread.

• #14193
I just changed my opinion based on that.

• #14194
JSSR's first action after being unbanned was to try and befriend me.
-
• #14195
Ban him forever.

He's clearly insane

He already has hasn't he?
JSSR has had his ban lifted after he apologised for use of homophobic language.Though I have asked him to edit those old posts and remove the language.
Being as you yourself have stated you have no interest in anything other than moderating the Rider Down thread, why are you waving the flag for gay rights? When I need another "look I'm liberal" in my corner, I'll give you a shout.

Scilly Suffolk isn't straight? Who knew.
Fair enough, the absence of an apostrophe is pretty offensive.
