Though I have asked him to edit those old posts and remove the language.

I'd guess he's just a bit dim and used to that language with young friends and 4chan types, probably didn't realise the error of his ways. He wasn't outright, directly homophobic, more ignorant use of language homophobic, if he's sorry, and more importantly learns something then I think it makes it OK.

Yes, if you truly repent. An important part of repentance is a commitment to behave better in future, so you can only pull that "I didn't know it was wrong" shit once.
