Brilliant!

How come you chose to go for the trailer wheel thing instead of a front rack?
-
• #7155
It's one of the daftest bikes ever made.

• #7156
That's probably true, it's great fun and I love it though.

If I'm not mistaken it's just fancy Ortleib with a high price tag because it says Brooks on it. The previous version of their panniers used the Arkel mount, but were made in China. A bit dear, if you ask me.

I think they use the Ortleib retention system now- however mine are all Rixen and Kaul Klick-Fix.
I've used the smaller ones a lot and they do exactly what I want, I've only used the larger ones a couple of times.
They are very, very secure, and apparently waterproof.
Other than that I don't have much to report I am afraid.

Haven't heard of the Klick-Fix ones. Seems that they have gone through several versions. Any idea if yours are made in China or Germany?

I don't but can have a look for "made in" labels.

Thanks for having a look. I read somewhere that their panniers are now made in Germany.
On a side note, does anyone else find the whole accessory line of Brooks gear odd? With 1000 euro jackets it seems that they are turning into a fashion house. I love their saddles, but question the direction the company is taking and hope that their core saddle business doesn't suffer because of it.

Maybe made by Ortleib for Brooks?

I bought three Klick-Fix, then discovered that I couldn't buy a fourth as they'd stopped production, and annoyingly in the move to Ortleib's system they'd changed the colour slightly.
I emailed Brooks and swapped my new Ortleib for what I thought was a new-old-stock Klick-Fix in the right colour.
It turns out that a buckle is on upside down on the one they gave me so I am guessing it was a return they had knocking around, which is obviously not a massive issue but a bit annoying nonetheless.
I keep meaning to take it over to a friend and ask her (she has a sewing machine) to flip the buckle.

That's what I'd assume. I can't imagine that there would be another German producer of waterproof panniers using the Ortleib mounts.

Great that they swapped it out for you, but a bit shocking that they sent you faulty goods.

Being charitable I'm going to think they didn't know. I'll get it sorted, and at least it's the right colour.

I can't imagine that they sent it out knowingly faulty, but still, quality control should be top notch on these things.

A truly bonkers tricycle. Your going to end up with an orange flag on that aeroextrawheel?
An amazing setup for a bit of touring.

How often will you have all the bags loaded?
I love the exuberant pomp there. Surely the pimpest bike there ever was. (that isnt shit)
I thought the general attraction to extra wheels was that you can leave your bike unhindered by racks and bags, just keep your lightweight road bike as just that. So are you going to leave the extra wheel day to day, the pannier rack or both?
just wondering..

I used it today for a quick poodle in Kent:

No panniers were involved, the rack stayed on though.
And that's the idea really - get to somewhere interesting with all my stuff in the panniers/on the trailer, make camp/check in/whatevs, and then go off and explore on the bike, unladen with stuff.
