  • Here's the other option;

    Kona Dr Good Stubby;

    Globe Work 3;

  • Very potential

    Holy shit do want

  • I'm a little disappointed to say that BigxTop and Restrap both seem to be ignoring my messages about a custom rando bag.
    Does anyone happen to know if the Ortlieb Back Roller Classic will fit on my soma porteur rack?

  • have you ruled out fishing bag route?

  • I have one, its ok, but a bodge job at best, plus its front opening.

  • Trent (BigX) generally is good with responding to PMs and emails .. maybe he is not available atm

  • Trent? I thought his name was Jordan? Anyway, he replied to my first message and then nothing to the second two.

    This may sound dumb, but can you not just turn it round?

  • No thats a valid point, the problem is that the closure straps are also used to hold the bag down

    They're just too fiddly to put at the back and also they'd be a nightmare to open on the move

    How big is the platform on the soma rack? Is it larger than the gamoh?

  • Spatra, if you can afford a custom bag, why not an OTP rando bag? like Berthoud, Swift, Acorn, Velo Orange, etc?

  • You know what to do: http://ilequipment.com/rackbag

  • £130 is pricey, but it does look very good, tempted to get it for my next project, but I think it still open from the front rather than the back (which is more convenience).

    Because I assumed I needed one of those supports, (a deculre? (no idea how to spell it sorry) which I'm not sure I can use with the hope twin V.

    I had already ruled that out for several reasons, including:

    £130 is pricey

    and it opens from the front not the back.

  • fair enough but custom wont be far from the price although you get flap the way you want

    Makes sense. Either way it's a charming colour.

    Out of curiosity how often do you want to access the inside on the move? Would some sort of small pocket accessible from the rider's side be enough. I was just thinking about something like the Brompton touring bag that has little pocket flaps on the back.

  • The ILE has 2 little pockets facing the rider:

    Decaleur, Acorn (and Swift I think) have velcro underneath;

    Thought the site still stated that a decaleur is recommended for a very secure fit.

    Or just run a mechanical disc with compressionless, they're just as powerful as hydro.

    Eyebrows said his was a little over half the cost.

    Also Restrap just replied to me to say they're to busy to do anything for at least a few months yet.

    I'd want to be able to get food/camera etc without stopping.

  • I'd also have a look in a motorbike store. They may have something you can work around, and most will be very tough and well made.

    The main advantage is that there are usually lots of bags in stock (unlike cycling bags in bicycle shops) so you can actually play about with them. Even smallish ones, like here usually have a decent range.

  • Just get a normal small rando bag instead then, remember you can make your own decaleur, some kind of modification like this;

    I was already thinking of the Acorn Boxy rando.

    Also i'm not changing systems now, money has been spent on the Hope system and I see no reason to change. At the time of purchase there were only limited options for road going cable disc's all of which didn't work well with older SRAM levers - the phrase i heard from a user was 'a constant nightmare of fiddling and tweeking, even with the travel adjusters'

    Thanks i'll look into that.

    I assume you deleted that other comment because you noticed that bag was front opening?

  • Those are heavy, I would just get a Carradice rear bag (maybe a lowsaddle model) possibly with a coroplast liner for structure. You get two side pockets and and a flap that opens whichever direction you decide works best. Attachment to the front wouldn't take much fiddling.

    Which skinny and Howard have no problem running BB7 with old SRAM, even I managed to vastly improved the braking performance by running compressionless.

    Yep.
