The smallest one is 56cm. I need a 51. Surlys are too long for me.

Scroll down the page, that's just the 700c option. 26" comes in 42cm - 62cm.

Surly are generally small and long which is unfortunate for those who do not wish to have a tower of spacer.
The new Genesis CdF actually come in 50cm now.
If that's too long, have a look at the Col du Glandon, despite the lack of disc, the equipment and geometry is pretty ideas with a realistic 52cm TT.
Specialized AWOL is an awesome bike too, it sit inbetween a CX and a Salsa Fargo., their top tube look long but that's normal as it come with a shorter stem (60mm on the S).

I'm looking to build a town / touring bike and would like disc brakes and rack mounts. Since I'm female with a short torso, I need a square-ish frame. Any suggestions?
The best I've found so far is the salsa Fargo but I don't need it so mtb ish.Not the Salsa Vaya?
If you're not planning on carrying loads. There are plenty of CX options. Dunno about your sizing.

http://www.somafab.com/archives/product/double-cross-discYeah the Vaya didn't look as much fun as the Fargo :) .
I know there are plenty of options, but they're all really long and I want maximum comfort. I guess I'll take this to the Ladies forum.
Cheers all. -

It did not help when you didn't spec what size you need.

Cheers all.Yeah. I did'nt want to start fitting you to a bike. I'd guess the CX bikes are designed to be at least a little long'n'low. Maybe something with the same design purpose as the Vaya. Not lots of that out there though. Kona Sultra perhaps. Still a bit long maybe.
I'm going to make this more difficult, and suggest a smaller wheel size. If you look at something like the Soma Saga. The small sizes have smaller wheels. So the bike can maintain a nice geometry. Not discs though.

£600 with 650B wheels which give you a similar reach to the Soma Saga's 44cm model.

It is much more common now, for example, to see a hipster riding a steel bike with a big front rack, full mudguards and perhaps even a poorly positioned Shimano dynamo front hub, than it is to see some guy riding a toight as a tiger track bike, all rolled up jeans and overly tight chain tension.
Bitch, I roll with SON...

Beardo's love the following things: mudguards, brass, racks, the verb 'portaging', new dynamo lights for use, old dynamo lights for polishing and talking about, cantilever brakes, steel, artisan tyre manufactures, talking about psi, the word 'supple'...,

If you're a serious roadie type. You probably train a lot with power. Having a touring bike that you plan to do uber miles in could leave big holes in your power data. Makes perfect sense to me.
The sexy black bike under is perfect. I just find myself a little annoyed at the rear mech. For a 1x set-up a short cage is a far far better option.
