  • I have the forggs too, much easier to set up and adjust than other cantis. You can set the toe on the froggs with an allan key by loosening/tightening the brake shoe arm. Dont even need to loosen the anchor bolt on the canti arms, super easy!

  • Not quite fitting with the theme of this thread but whatever 'Functional' says to you I guess.

  • ^oh yes. Beauty.

  • Belongs in porn, imo.

  • Very nearly anti. Not quite finished either, still tinkering. But had my 3 and 6 year olds on it, for a 6km spin, and they loved it.

Grunting up hills is so much easier with the NuVinci hub. You can dial in the exact ratio you want while under massive load.

The massive tyres really smooth things out too.

  • you mean you can change ratio while pedalling comfotably? (unlike normal internal gear hubs).

  • you mean you can change ratio while pedalling comfotably? (unlike normal internal gear hubs).

Totally. I was a bit stressed bout having the kids on the back. I trashed the CX bike while they were in a trailer behind. So both kids have a sensible fear of daddys cycling and cycles.

This meant I wasnt on top of my gearing. Butthe NuVinci saved me. If you suddenly need to stop. Being able to change right down to restart, while standingstill is pricelss. Equally. Being able change comfortably, while dragging 150+ Kg up a steep hill, without losing momentum is brilliant.

  • The appeal nature of being able to change while under load now become more obvious.

I loved my 11 speed alfine, but like any internal gear hubs I have to take a bit of weight off to change gear.

traffic is also useful for such hubs, the only issue I don't like about internal gear is the weird spongy feeling you get from not having a direct drive, did you get that too? that alone put me off internal gear touring/road bicycle (but for town/utility, it's perfect).

Plus, big tyres do make you go faster, I dare you aim for a pothole and see what happen.

  • Belongs in porn, imo.

    What's the green LED-looking thingie?

  • Grease from the bottom of the other bolt in the crank.

  • I think...

  • just a wallop of grease.

or an indicator that'll tell you to harden the fuck up.

  • Clockwork is a real beauty, but I hold bi-lam construction 3rd behind fillet brazed and lugs as far as aesthetics go. The technique seems a little confused, undecided.

Definitely doesnt feel as sharp as a direct drive. Not sure I would call it spongy. The patterson cranks are also less sharp when in overdrive. In direct drive mode (which I use 90% of the time when loaded) they're unnoticable. But in over-drive (which I use 75% of the time when unloaded), they click like a freewheel. Kinda annoying. But it allows me a top end of ratios, I could'nt otherwise afford to have on such a load carrier.

  • the technique is very OTT, have no advantage over lugs, tig or fillet brazed, it's very much for show.

Would love to have bi-lam but I find it's a little OTT, my frame will be fillet brazed with a wrap around seat stay and lugged bottom bracket, too much can look a bit weird.

  • So excited, my long awaited and carefully spec'd functional bike is nearly here! LHT, the distributor has stopped shipping green so I've had to go blue (didn't want another black bike), can always armourtec it. Having it built so I can c2w scheme £1k of the total. Readers wives to follow when it arrives.

  • Some great bikes here, always fancied a Yuba. I got mine finished with guards and rack.

  • The orange is, erm, brave.

  • Stuck with the Blackburn EX2. It feels rock solid. I'm surprised how well the bike handles with a lot of weight to one side. You can even ride no-handed. Crazy.

The frame on the back is getting drop bars for full monstercross duties.

Is there a thread about this bike?

Could anyone tell what tires those are? And I second tallsam.

  • I find my new bars and lever pretty handy...

    Kenda small block 8 CX.

Very versitile tyres that actually work both on and off road.
