  • buyers are traders too

  • The Consumer Credit Act makes the credit card company equally liable for purchases made with the credit card. So if the seller fucks you over, you can sue the credit card company instead.

What would usually happen is you would tell the card company that the seller defrauded you, and they will refund your account, and go after the seller themselves.

It's a very powerful piece of consumer legislation.

Just to add to this, it only applies to credit cards. Not debit cards.

  • Just to add to this, it only applies to credit cards. Not debit cards.

A little know fact is that is DOES apply to VIsa debit cards

  • an old link but still true

    "Visa debit cards

But any debit card that operates within the VISA scheme also carries cover. Visa says it has strong rules in place to protect cardholders, and you should contact the card issuer."

  • wow, when I had a problem with my Halifax Visa Debit, the woman from Halifax pretty much told me tough shit... I even asked if the fact that it was a Visa made a difference and was told "no, as far as we're concerned, you've sent the money, how do we know the other party hasn't delivered."

  • She was lying to you!

  • Yeah I know, fucken bitch! Proper not happy about that.... Can anyone recommend me a decent bank to switch to? Can't be dealing with any with that little security thing that looks like a calculator though.....

  • guys, when it comes to banks or cards, if you made a transaction in your good consciousness, then they won't do anything about it, after all, you decided to send the money.
now, if you say your card was compromised, and someone else did the transaction, that's completely different case

Well you live and you learn....

Here's a bit more on the subject which also does confirm that you have better protection overall with a credit card purchase - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/working_lunch/7593369.stm

But fck all if you use a credit card via PayPal.

*i.e. you only have paypal purchase protection which doesn't appear to be worth the digital ink it's written in, unless the purchase was via ebay.

  • there's an internet fraud scam re. bikes at the moment
I found out at my own cost
The perpetrators advertise high end bikes, motorbikes and cars
    I saw my 'find' here...
    http://annunci.ebay.it/ebay-annunci
the bike was listed in Italy, but the owner said it was in Athens
I was told to make payment to an escrow company,
who would hold the funds until a third party transport group delivered and I inspected
here's the link to the transport co.,
    http://s-w-transport.eu/index.php
I received a tracking code, and once payment sent said "parcel' en route.....
    it never arrived
    apparently a scam

so if your buying abroad, secure payment only

  • so if your buying abroad, secure payment only

umm, i realise it's not of any consolation, but isn't it the only way to go? i don't even know what escrow means

  • Escrow generally refers to money held by a third-party on behalf of transacting parties.

That's interesting. I've had to use paypal to get my money back twice and neither was for ebay, though.

  • Paypal sorted me right out when I paid for a frame that wasn't coming, that wasn't through ebay.

  • interestingly enough, if you're on the selling side (allegedly), and the buyer's saying he did not receive an item, you're pretty much in losing position. you better have some bullet proof evidence of delivery, otherwise you're refunding in no time

  • If you have proof of postage then it's down to the carrier to refund, right?

  • the escrow scam is as old and simple as they come.

  • Paypal sorted me right out when I paid for a frame that wasn't coming, that wasn't through ebay.

It will work for some people, but as I understand it it's not transparent and PayPal are inconsistent in the way they deal with issues.

  • Just spotted 'lovecloughfixie' trying to sell a £70 seatpost for £85 claiming it's £185 at full retail - does that count as a 'bad trader'?...

    http://www.lfgss.com/thread78087.html

I work at Pearson's - it is not £185, trust me.

  • It's certainly not in the spirit

No, it just makes them a tad stupid.

  • he's outed so work's done

  • well either your lying or vern in the workshop is lying. he told me it retailed £185 when he sent it to me. he sent it as an apology for pearsons cycling sending me a badly built frame.

so who is lying? you or vern?

and contacting me via pm would have been the preferred way of pointing out the fact, instead of publicly. coz you know some people do make fuck ups based on bad information given by pearson's cycles.

  • hi all,

i've emailed pearson's to verify the price of this seatpost and report RTR's unnecessary behaviour. therefore this item is no longer for sale until i clarify who at pearson's was lying. either RTH or vern in the workshop.

    cheers

    shaun
