Hope no one has bought this...

@ Mr C. Sorry you've missed the point entirely. Besides the fact that I got in before anybody else, agreed that I would come to you, with the money you requested, and purchase the bike (and having made it clear that I would never split it, or sell it - by the way, Im an Aussie trackie/roadie, and a lifelong fan of Danny C, so I couldn't think of a much better home), the issue here is that a classifieds is where stuff is sold or bought.
There is no room on a classifieds for "conditional sale", or "sale with the option to buy back" (and particularly when that is not mentioned in the ad), as that simply creates the opportunity for unfairness like this. If you had any concerns about selling it to me (or anybody else) you could have voiced them rather than simply dishonouring our agreement (albeit a loose one at that). Thats simply not gentlemanly. And if you had any concerns about parting with the bike altogether, you should simply not have advertised it for sale, but given more thought. I should not have to pay the price for your indeciciveness.
I will agree with you that this is not about the money. Its about having faith that the classifieds on LFGSS operate with the integrity it should. In this instance, that is simply not the case.
(BTW I have been a member here longer than you have - I am The Black Widow - simply forgot my p/w and couldnt retrive it from my workplace so setup a new user to purchase your bike).
Well, how i am i suppsed to know these things if you don't tell me. How would you have acted if you had to decide between a good friend and a guy that just registered on the forum. Maybe you should have mentioned that you are Australian, a D C fan, etc etc. in any case, its done now.
btw your argument is logically flawed. if sales on lfgss were unconditional you cannot rest your argument on the "dibs concludes sale" condition, it could have equally been first with the money at my door gets bike and that wasn't you. also i don't understnad your point about my indeciciveness...anyway
lets not argue, now i understand your disappointment.
I will let you know should my friend sell and i can't buy back.

Poor show.

To be honest I think Dibs are shit I have some dibs people put on things from my post on Suday and people have not even sent a pm never mind paid for stuff.
-
• #106
What does Dibs mean or stand for?
-
• #107
if the dibs doesn't come with a pm ignore, and post up in thread, that the item is still for sale, or better yet, in for sale blurb, just say no dibs, simples..
skylark, dibs is just a way of saying its mine, reserving without a deposit etc...
-
• #108
The good thing about dibs is that others know whether something is still likely to be for sell rather than sending a message only to find that the item has been sold already.

yes but it doesnt mean you should just completely ignore people.
i had first dibs on one of your items, pm'ed you very quickly and we were discussing payment when you sold it to someone else. -

I've had that happen a few times, and have done it back recently too. While its frustrating, its the sellers choice, and until money has changed hands no deal has been done. People on here like their bikes, they sometimes have to sell to pay rent etc, then their situation may change and they can keep their pride and joy till next month. I don't think you can put someone in the same league as those who sell faulty stuff, or never post what has already been paid for!

Just ignore them, I don't do dibs only PMs... 'dibing' is for fucking jokers, not actually valid buyers.

Come on Dibs is part of our heritage, at school, when smoking and on this forum, as with all aspects of life some people are annoying cnuts and don't play by the rules. You know if someone proper on the forum is selling and someone proper is dibbing there will be no grief it's mostly the obvious chancers that end up up pissing everyone around. Dibs is best just too piss on everyone else that you got in first!!

Scubbasteve
I responded to an advert he posted looking for a cheap bike. He said he wanted to view the bike, but as I'm based near Leicester at the minute I said I could bring the bike down when I was in London that weekend. He said could do all day Saturday, so I said come to Hammersmith any time and he could have a look. Sent him a text Friday night when I'd got down to London, bike in tow to confirm. No response. Tried calling Saturday, said he 'was busy but will call back in five minutes'. Didn't call back. Tried ringing him again. No response. No show.
This was after I'd hauled the bike down from the middle of nowhere Leicestershire, inconveniencing family members along the way for a £100 bike I thought might help someone out while they were bikeless.
Very poor show.

1) did you come to London specifically to show him the bike?
2) did you explicitly tell him so?If so then it's bad show from him. If not then, perhaps there was a misunderstanding.
-
• #117
I was coming to London anyway, but it's somewhat different when you have to bring a bike via work (live Leicestershire, work in Birmingham). Only an imbecile would think this isn't going out your way slightly.
No understanding to be had when someone explicitly says they would like to view a bike on a stated day then purposefully ignores all contact.

I wasn't trying to give him an easy ride, just pointing out some things that you didn't mention that are important in deciding just how bad of a trader this guy is.
-
• #119
Fair enough. I guess most of us would be nonplussed however far you'd travelled though, we don't want this kind of thing happening with any kind of regularity (I'm thinking mainly with newer members trying this kind of stunt). I've got nothing but positive things to say about the people I've dealt with before but now sadly I'd only really want to deal with regular posters.

WTF James? Didn't realise you were so precious.
Edit: scrap that, James is a complete tool.

I posted this on one of bicic's eBay & LFGSS double offerings:
he is also selling this on the bay, which might complicate your transaction unless he is willing to end it on the bay and honour the offer here. Sorry Bicic, pretty direct, but rules are rules.
His reply:
Hi, yes but I have three frames 2x 59 1x57
So I try sale 2 frames hire and one on ebay and it's my right to do this.
ThanksAcceptable?

I had said "Re benjam
Not a malicious bad trader, just inept at posting."
But after gingersuperanals continued antagonism on the matter I wish to add they are both oversensitive whingers!

I think it's perfectly fair to decide to sell on to a friend instead. It's annoying to you, yes, but you haven't taken any sort of hit apart from a bout of disappointment. If the shoe was on the other foot, and a good mate of yours suddenly decided he wanted an item you're selling, I doubt very much you'd just refuse him. If you did, that wouldn't make you a very good friend.
I think a "deal with it" GIF is in order here.
