It wasn't hard to enforce, it just wasn't enforced at all. As no one person is in control, or enforcing the rules, it's kinda impossible.
And that's only solved by having a league body, who run the league, rather than being a casual democracy (which is the impression I get atm). Of course ideally for the sake of fairness it wouldn't be run by active players, but I guess it would be hard to find respected polo players who aren't playing in the league.

disagree, i think there are some respected players who won't be able to find time to commit to playing in the league, but whether or not they would want to commit time to running a league im not sure.

I loved the last league. I also loved the first. And I intend to love the third, no matter what format it takes.
Me too, but some of the games were waaaaaaaaay too long. The UK Champs final was great, really tense, couldn't take my eyes off it for 1 sec of the 30 mins, but on a cold night in mid Jan, I did find one or two of the games a little tedious. I do like the idea of 3 games in a match, because it makes for a different dynamic, but not 3 X 15 mins. I don't know.
I think we ought to be treating the league as prep for champs, therefore it would make sense to have 2/3 X 8 or 10 min games, no golden goal, with a top 4 or 8 play-off finals day.
Or would that make the end of league party less fun? The end of league party is always the best bit!
^^^
Proposed without prejudice or rancour, hope it's taken in same spirit.

yeah and we also need to vote for a system which encourages teams to play their fixtures within the league deadline.
This, for me personally, is the single most important change required for the next league.
Call me hypocritical, as I was on one of the worst teams, from the point of view fixture back-logg, but I agree with this whole-heartedly.
Not just because not fulfilling fixtures in time made the league go on too long, but also because I know that we, the Beards, gamed our back-log to what we thought would be our advantage, instead of playing out the back-log in the order in which it had been scheduled. I am not accusing other teams of having done likewise, but I know that we did (not that it made a great deal of difference to our league position in the end).

thats the bitchiest thing you've ever written.

I think I would prefer 3 x 10 minute games rather than 2 x 15 minute games. On the other hand, it might be worth testing out 2 x 15 to see how it goes.
-
• #233
just forget the last game of every fixture last season and you've tested it.
-
• #234
Or remember your fixture against the Beards. ;)

little observation from the 3 game system last year
Game 1 - we'd often get rinsed as the other team run rings around us
Game 2 - we'd work out their game patterns and often the game would be a lot closer
Game 3 - educational as the other team would then change their game pattern [a hallmark of the good teams] and we'd have to be really switched on to adapt to thatlearnt a lot playing that system [Elks completely bamboozled us by responding to our attempt at a defensive lockdown by playing 3 out]

Zombie Sick
Are both versions with games still to 5?
How are points awarded for the results (wins/draws) - for the individual games or overall fixture?
surely option b only applies if its a best of 3 winning concept or else why bother playing 3 games?
