  • As for the US prison statistics I'd like to point out that most black americans are not in jail. I don't see your point? It's somehow our fault that those people who are in jail chose to live a life of crime instead of a life of hard work?

If this is meant to be sarcastic, it's veiled too thickly.

  • It's not.
Nobody is in jail because their great great great great grandfather was a slave.
If there is seriously anyone who claims they are, then they really need to grow up and take some responsibility for their own lives.

  • What I really don't get is that I work 5 days a week to get 2 off. This doesn't make any bloody sense. Surely it should be at least 50/50.

  • Be thankful you're not still back in the US - don't they get about 5 days holiday or something wank like that?!

  • YouTube- The Shamen Jesus Loves Amerika

Every time I get pissed off I find myself alone in a desert, with an eagle spirit guide. Doctor says I'm a Shamanic depressive

  • I never had holiday pay until I came here. Or sick pay.
The US really sticks it to the working class.

  • Apparently he is "Naked in the rain" ... so you might get to see a full frontal

YouTube- DIO - Naked in the Rain (San Antonio TX, 1988)

Isn't there a funny videos thread somewhere on the forum?

  • I love holiday pay. I like that the more I work, the more time i get off and the more money i make. win win (apart from all the work). Take a week off, go on holiday, still get paid! ace.

  • i used to think i'd never get brussels sprouts. then i tried them stir fried like mini cabbage. it's alright.

i still don't get why people would eat sea cucumber.

I agree with that to a large extent, except that I think it should be four days of work and three days away from work (which in practice can still be work, e.g. caring for a family, although not necessarily work that one doesn't want to do) a week. I think it's important for work to be slightly more days than non-work.

The current arrangement gives people too little time to pursue their own interests, which in turn causes a huge amount of extra work for society, e.g. through the adverse effect on personal development, etc.

    So true.

    Why?

I think we need a few more posts quoting Nhatt's.

  • Why?

    It'd feel better that way.

  • british folk. specifically british acid folk from the 60s in the pentangle vein.

i've tried and tried to get over my aversion (am suffering though "gather in the mushrooms" right now) but i just hate it so much of it. my band-mates are big fans of this stuff and want to do some, hence the current listening, but i'm not sure i'm going to be able to get over my distaste of it.

i love loads of american and irish folk, even some british stuff (richard thompson for example and even bert and john outside of the pentange context are great) but i just can't stand that po-faced warbly, faux-middle ages, sexless dirge that seems to comprise so much british folk from the 60s. i hate the way they don't use thirds (major or minor), i hate the needlessly archaic language, i hate the fey, limp and oh so solemn vocals. eugh. it makes my skin crawl.

    gimme this:

    or this:

    i just can't stand this:

  • Fairpoint (Convention)

  • i actually like fairport. maybe it's just pentangle i dislike?

*presses on with gather in the mushrooms.

edit: i'm actually listening to sandy denny, milk and honey right now. it's good.

  • I'm so into Ewan at the moment. All that hippy stuff is a bit of a closed book to me. Wouldn't mind hearing some recommended stuff though dooks...

  • I love a few of Ewan McColl's songs (especially 'Sweet Thames, Flow Softly'), but I can't stand his singing.

  • My OH is an enourmouse Dead Head, he gave me one of his (many) Grateful Dead CD wallets before he fucked off for 5 months, and i must say, despite perseverence Im still not sure i get it...

  • I don't think anyone gets The Grateful Dead do they? Including The Grateful Dead ... Isn't that the point?

  • ... but I can't stand his singing.

I can see why some may not. I absolutely love it.

I thought something similar, but apparently im wrong....or at least so B tells me...
