I appreciate the influence on the genre, but overall it's nostalgic hype. A bit like when everyone suddenly started listening to the Pixies in the mid '00s.

beasties started as a punky type band, their early early stuff is really guitary shouty and punky, not in the least bit rap, different vibe all together

First time I became aware of Beastie Boys was from skate videos. I was more than a little surprised when I got my copy of Some Old Bullshit home from Virgin Megastore to discover no rapping on it.

In 1998 I briefly had a job in a design studio. The lead designer had a tape with Eminem's first album on one side and Wu-Tang on the other on continuous play in the studio for the entire month or so I worked there. It turns out you can have too much Wu-Tang.
