  • I keep fucking up, caine the gym for 3 weeks loose weight get fitter then dont go to the gym for 2 weeks eat shit, loose fitness and put some weight on and repeat. All in all though its going down but there is ups as well. Need to get a little more disciplined.

  • No offence but your understanding of 'brown fat' looks wrong - can you provide a peer-reviewed reference that documents the presence of abdominal brown adipose tissue in adult humans? I thought the whole point of BAT was that its only temporarily present in newborn babies who need it for non-shivering thermogensis, and retained in trace amounts around the clavicle and vertebral column in adults?

    Just going on what my A-level Biology teacher told us. He used to peer over the top of his glasses if that helps.

  • Weening.

    Look at the sugary items that your eating and work on it from two angles. 1) eat less sugary versions of the stuff that you're on. 2) Combine it with filling foods.

    This should tackle both the psychology and the biological behaviour patterns that are feeding your intake.

    Cold turkey action is almost always a bad choice when it comes to behavioural change.

    I always go cold turkey, don't want to cut down, want to stop!

  • What's this one? Google just gives me a load of boring results about how exercising in the cold is a Hidden Menace ready to kill you at a moment's notice. NB my google-fu is weak this morning. Uh. Afternoon.

    Just something that I heard that if you exercise when it's cold then the body will preserve the dermal level fat for insulation.

    Most athletes and amateur sports enthusiasts focus on doing their chosen sport in summer. And spending winter in the gym, eating a lot.

    Ive kind of been doing the latter for 2 years, without much opportunity to apply any strength or fitness gains to a sport.

    Im never going to be any good at road cycling, my lungs are just too bad for that. I dont really like the idea of endurance stuff anyway.

    My shoulders and wrists are weak and fragile, I have a no ACL & damaged meniscii in my right knee, plus I wear glasses. So contact sports like rugby (which I think would be awesome fun) are totally out of the question.

    I have a small hope/expectation that if I keep working on my power and strength in the gym this might have carry over to bike sprints. But I dont have a well fitting road or track bike to practice/train. And the nearest drome is too awkward to get too (im probably not keen enough to counter my laziness).

    In the meantime I am heartily enjoying this strength work in itself, give it another year or two and I might have a competitive deadlift. And I may get to the stage where I am confident enough to take part in a contact sport (perhaps even jiu jitsu or wrestling).

    So yeah, im kind of focusing on the "winter training" part.

  • Well I seem to have plateaued, weight hovers around the 81kg mark.

    I'm steadily putting on muscle but the fat % stays roughly the same- mid 17's to low 18's.

    I'd like to lose approximately 8% of that figure, but given my love of icecream I suspect liposuction is the only way forward.

  • You can learn to lose the dependence on sugar.

    I grew up on a diet of 50% sweets and 20% pop. But over the past few years, slight avoidance of sugary stuff has made me lose my sweet tooth completely. Seriously, I used to put 4 dessert spoons of sugar on my frosties!

    But these days I actually find drinking normal milk as sweet and delicious as I used to find ice cream.

    Also bear in mind that you are at a pretty healthy/typical bodyfat level now. If you want to drop the percentage without starving yourself, a better tactic might be to increase lean body mass. If you attempt to put on weight while using extra protein sources and weight training. Your lean mass will go up and fat will stay the same, reducing BF percentage and making you look much more lean and atheltic looking.

    A couple years ago I used to weigh 64kg and I looked weak and very pudgy, had big love handles and all that. It took me only a few months to go up to 77kg or so and I look much less pudgy now. I am aiming for 90kg.

    As long as you keep the ice cream portions the same, or reduce them just slightly. Whilst increasing the protein sources it should work.

    Most people never get past this awkward middle stage of skinny-fatness. You need to go all the way to turn into he-man.

  • I think there are three rooms, all off a corridor that is past the weights section of the gym.

    They looked nice when I poked my head around the door.
