Bah.

The last time my work got involved with a gym they forgot to tell everyone that corporate membership is cheaper the more people join up.
Three of us joined and ended up paying a tenner more than a standard membership.

Losing weight by emptying wallet. A common trait amongst cyclists.

Did 3 weeks of experimenting with carb timing. I still ate plenty of calories, just avoided carbs in the daytime and only had them between training and bedtime.
I dropped from 77.5kg to 72.5kg - loss of 5kg. A Dexa scan verfied that this was ALL fat loss. I actually managed a tiny muscle increase.
The strange thing is, I could not visually see a change at all. I took before and after pictures and to my eyes I looked exactly the same. I ran a few times during the period, and in a submaximal cycle based fitness test I made an improvement.
The process was horrible though, I hated going without carbs all day.
have you read john kiefer's carb nite?
good read.
im following a protocol very similiar to this ^^^
no carbs until post workout, then bring on the tortilla wraps, dohnuts, ice cream, biscuits etc.
i eat pretty much whatever i want at night, but always fast until lunchtime, and only have green veg and protein for lunch.
drinking plenty of water is also really important.
ive consistantly lost fat, while gaining strength - for the last 3 months, simply by doing this.
i also go to the best gym ever. its called the functional strength institute.
tyre flipping, prowlers, sleds, monkey bars, ropes, sledgehammers.more of a playground than a gym. loving it.
best advice for fast weight loss - cut the carbs in the morning!
intermitant fasting is super effective, but alternate day fasting isent great if you have muscle building goals. apparently a 14 hour fast is optimal. personally i wouldnt want to go without food for a day. too extreme.

14 hours really isn't that long though is it which is good.

Have been experimenting with eating the same amount (and cutting out as much alcohol as possible) but not eating after 6 for the last 3 weeks (admitedly interspersed with my birthday last weekend which invlolved a lot of booze, and several trips to v nice restaurants and a lot of cake) despite this I've dropped about 1.5kg and feel a lot trimmer.
The next few weeks don't include any real temptations to drink so hopefully I should be back down to the low 70s by the middle of september having got up to 77kg since I ran the paris marathon back in May.
Something I'm really keen to avoid doing again, but a combination of a lot of work and life related shit and resultant lack of care and a neccessary drop in training levels will be forgotten if I can get back down around 70kg.
My only real problem is I don't know how to switch the concentrating on diet thing on and off and it seems to happen relatively randomly. I feel happier when I'm being healthy but not really sure if that's a cause or effect and what else contributes to it. I've spent thr last 2 months trying to get more dicipline in my diet but it finally clicked about 3 weeks ago.

how much do you weigh and how much have you lost?
I toyed with fasting on the weekend. 18 hours was enough for me, only drinking water but did have some effect. i think. dont know if that was psychological or not though.

I realise this wont go down well at all, but does anyone else have trouble keeping weight on?
Unless I conciously make an effort to eat three solid meals a day I get stupidly skinny, even if I cut back on gym / cycling. I find eating takes too long and requires too much effort, especially when you're busy - is this the beginning of an eating disorder or do I just need to eat more cake and drink less espresso?
edit: I'm 6', 70kg and when last checked 3 months ago 11% bodyfat. The physician told me to gain weight back then and I was 4kg heavier.

Make an effort to eat regularly or you'll risk screwing your metabolism up. I'm guessing you're young, so right now you can get away with it but later on say late 30s early 40s when your metabolism starts to change anyway it could mean payback. Bear in mind if you starve yourself your body will metabolise itself hence losing weight. Even though I'm on a strict diet I eat little and often.
It's not an eating disorder if you do something about it and don't allow it to become one.

^This. I have exactly the same problem: I start to lose weight immediately if I don't pay attention. It can really take the fun out of eating when your main focus is on getting enough calories. Personally, I've found it very helpful to always have something easily digestable nearby, e.g. milk (-based products).

i'm having a similar problem... i don't think i've been eating or exercising any differently to normal, but suddenly lost about 3kg in as many weeks.
i was pretty light anyway, but now am about 63kg and am just over 6ft. i was under 10% body fat when i weighed about 68kg, so have got a bit worried about it all of a sudden. i thought i ate more than enough anyway, but obviously not.
have recently started really trying to gain weight, it's quite time consuming, stressful and expensive.

try counting calories for a few days, it's always a surprise to see how much you're actually taking in when not thinking about it.

Cost is the worst part, as when I'm broke the easiest thing to skimp on is food. Plus missing meals means no stress / effort and plenty of time for all the other ways I waste my life :)

Really? I've always been between 68-72kg at 6foot, and have never felt excessively skinny. What reasons did the physician give?
My office might be relocating to Southwark, so if it's local to the office I may see you there.
