  • 91.1kg - can't break through to the 80s

  • Take it easy, forcing yourself or making it not fun, is a shortcut to unhappiness and failure.
Try mixing up the routine and have a blowout day when you're feeling shit about having to control everything in your life.
Switch/ take up some new sports, etc.
Basically, try and make it fun, not about achieving a goal, and the goal will come as a side effect.

  • I've been stuck at 16 stone 5 for a few weeks, really annoying... But think the gym training has been putting on muscle cos I'm feeling slimmer. Gonna cut right back on milk again and beast the phys over the next few weeks, just got to keep on keeping on!

  • Boo hoo hoo, I've managed to get myself down to 109kg from 128kg this time last year, and have just been told that the recurring pain in my shoulders is probably not going to heal itself and surgery is the best option. Facing a 3 month recovery period, much of which I assume will be off the bike, out of the gym and definitely not involve any rugby. Going to be a real test of willpower to stay off the beer and pies, my diet tends to go out the window when the training stops.

Nothing wrong with a bit of recovery comfort eating and besides you will still be able to go walking as exercise. If you are genuinely worried about this then raise your concerns with the doctors who are treating you or the medical staff who will be helping you during your recovery period.

  • Down to 81.6 kg this morning. Lost 2 kg this week which is a bit fast for my liking. Just had a very good cheese on toast lunch and off the bike today. It weird, every time I go to the scales I expect some to have come back on and instead I've lost more.

  • After the Edinburgh trip I'm back up, and have been getting up at 4.30am for work, so calorie counting can bugger off. Will be interesting to see where I am. Back to the regime on Monday.

  • Shit it was today, I thought weigh in was tmw AM for some reason...
    Will weigh in now...

(71kg just after a big lunch).

Will weigh again in the morning, but as I expect to have lost, I don't really care too much, but I like consistency in results.
And for me 78-71 in 9 weeks is a massive achievement, so I'm really pleased.

Good work, your commitment is what has won it for you and I look forward to catching up over burgers in the future.
I'm not really convinced I'm going to lose that much more weight.
This week I've eaten carefully, and exercised at an almost unsustainable rate... And haven't lost a thing.
So, not really sure what to do, especially as I still have some belly fat I really want rid of.

I've always said it was about both reaching our own goals and that's has ahppened and I hope to some extent our competition and the resulting spreadsheet has helped a good few more get to a better place!

Will weigh in tomorrow morning as well, it'll hopefully keep me a little more mitvated at a time when all I really want to do is eat lots and lots and lots, and I don't really know why!

The mission is to stay sub 70 till race day.

Hopefully by then this weight and caloruies requirement will feel easy unlike the struggle it currently is! (How is weight maintenance harder than loss!?)

I'm doing well all day and then I face the wall with midnight cravings.
I have some low calorie snacks, but still overdo.
I should've taken something like 1530-1800 kcal a day, but end up doing 2000 :-)
I've set up a reward system - when I'm spent calories wise for a day, I'd do 30 mins on a spin bike to get a snack.

The other thing is, perhaps I eat much healthier, but also eat much more and more often. Before it was a coffee for breakfast, sometimes a sandwich with cheese and something fried for lunch and usually either pasta or chicken for dinner.
Now I have 3 meals with snacks between them. Even all the vegetarian stuff I'd make from scratch and fruit gives me a whole lot of calories and often I feel stuffed (but not for long). And with all the exercise and running I feel bit more beefy - not loosing much weight, but gaining visible mass (legs, latissimus dorsi, can actually feel stomach muscles under my beer gut)

  • I'm eating broccoli and hummous. Nom.

How are you guys all getting six packs? Are you doing crazy amounts of sit ups and toning exercises or something?

  • Squats and clean & press.

You can't see mine yet, but when it's out you will amaze!

  • I have the rumblings of an eight.. four lovely proud ridges on each side... there is still some work to do however.

  • I've found that running has made me feel more toned around the middle (not toned, more toned) than anything else I've ever done. Can really feel it in the sides especially.

  • 93.5kg this morning

Makes me think I can realistically hit 90. I know BMI is shit but its nice to no longer be considered obese.

Even the fittest, fastest, pro rugby players will likely be in the obese bracket.

I aim to maintain a BMI over 30, while being able to run my favourate mountain 16K (includes a couple hundred steps), in or around my PB. Plus have an absolute minimum pinchable fat layer.

I was doing brilliantly, having had a muscle growth spurt, it seems. Loads of carbs before a run, loads of protein/amino acids/creatin etc with weights. All carefully balanced.

But I've just been knocked out with flu for a week, and now feel like a short beardie version of twiggy. :(

I've been advised to move from the clean'n'press to a 3 step version. Picking the bar off the floor first. Specifically for rugby.

Fecking orrible after a couple reps.

    Circuits.

Find 2 stomache exercises + 2 lower back exercises.
Alternate reps of say 10. Stomache, back, stomache etc.

    repeat untill you feel sick.

Not all. I've gots 2 pac.

  • Find 2 stomache exercises

This is how I feel about them - ache.

  • Yeah I found quite a good youtube video for stomach exercises, which I'm going to try doing daily (with lower back exercises too as you've recommended it). Cycling is great cardio and all but it's not budging my little island of belly fat.

It's pretty amazing now. Too much lifting?

Its always a good idea to work muscle groups with their opposite numbers for balance.

Swiss balls are great for core work-outs.

There's a couple of apps for an iPhone with all the exercises and the whole routing. perhaps it would motivate you more? They are easily to follow and it tells you how many reps to do etc. And by 'easy' I mean it's easy to see what to do, but not easy to actually do them ;-)

Hey, Tom, so you don't feel bullied (before I put on 10 kg):
