yep its leaving me a little tired and my running speed has decreased (about 3 minutes on to my 5.something commute), but ultimately it should benefit me in the long run if you'll excuse the pun.

I'm not so sure it's good for you. Given that you run and cycle, that's a very large deficit. You're likely to be losing as much muscle as fat (maybe more muscle than fat), leaving you in poor shape at the end, with a high risk of just yo-yoing back up in weight once you stop the crash diet.

thats calories excluding those burned by running and cycling - should have clarified

Edited- just saw that your basal rate is aimed at 1300.
I still would suggest that you raise that to 1500 or 1800, and accept that you'd only lose 1lb a week or there abouts, but still that's 5kg in 10 weeks.Update from me:
I'm trying a sensible diet. 1800 cals a day minimum, 2000 max.
Gym and a run every morning (except 1 day a week).
And soon some exercise in the afternoons I think.A sample day's menu:
Porridge with an apple and cinnamon for breakfast.
Lunch is Pasta/ Rice with a high protein meat (chicken/ turkey)
Snack at about 4 is yoghurt (lo fat) and a banana and some muesli (though this is also sometimes a pudding after dinner)
Dinner is salad/ soup with any meat.No carbs after 7. Very little bread, no chocolate, no crisps, no alcohol.
(except vodka- when I have a night out).I haven't felt better for a while, no caffeine and tonnes of energy. I'm supplementing with a vitamin and a fish oil.
Also, an offline training log, which contains a food diary, an exercise log, a strength log, and a work log.

On a side note.
L-Carnitine- Semi-Proven efficacy in weight loss (exercise based)
(well, sort of- wiki will say otherwise, but the research that I may or may not be a part of had done preliminary work which had positive weight loss/ muscle gain results)BUT you have to take it with Carbohydrates or it won't work.

I've put on almost 5kg this month. Am I doing it right?
Numerous people have asked if I've lost weight though. Are they idiots?

Probably doing it more right than any of us.

Fair play, my reason for Such aggresibe weight loss is that I need to get it out of they way before I start training for the marathon, which makes sense in my head so I'm sticking with it!

I'm doing Weight Watchers which doesn't measure calorie intake at all. I've only just realised I don't have to consider it by reading the posts above. WW allows you to eat pretty much what you like, in moderation, except definitely reducing red meat. Coming up for a fortnight without a beer too, which is unheard of.
Lost another 2lbs this week, so the weight is coming off consistently, and I'm getting accustomed to how a reduced diet makes me feel generally. Treated myself to a milkshake the other day and I couldn't finish it; too rich for my new blood.

good to hear, good to hear.
WW does the calorie counting without the mind-numbing neuroses that ensues.
And the fact its all-encompassing, to the point of obsessiveness. We'll see how it goes.
The Gym seems to be adding weight, but I'm already noticeably changed.Anyhow, I think this place should start providing some recipes.

Is something I'm considering making, because I have a sweet tooth. Now, I'm off to go watch some flashy things in the sky.

arent points effectively simplified calories
just looked it up and its a counting system taking into account the protein, fat, carbs and fiber values of food, so pretty much calorie counting but in another name.
but nevertheless great work keep it up!

Are you putting on muscle?
I put on around 16kg of weight and everyone was asking me if id LOST weight/got thinner. If your putting on muscle in your back/chest/arms it makes your waist look narrower by comparison.

No, I just replaced cycling with binge drinking.

Then they are idiots I guess. Unless your legs/hips have become thinner through muscle wastage. Some people correlate big thighs with being a lard arse.

It's so much easier to keep the pounds off when you smoke and do loads of drugs...

I used MyFitnessPal for the first time today. Target calories for today - 2040.
Total calories in: 2209
Calories burnt: 1247 (23 mile commute)
Net: 962
Remaining: 1078
I didn't snack in the day apart from a cappuccino mid-morning. Had soup and a sandwich for lunch, then an apple when I got home.
Dinner was a small portion of grilled halloumi followed by pancetta risotto with steamed kale, plus 2 glasses of wine.I feel like I haven't had to restrain myself very much, though I was starving when I got home from work. I'm thinking that the cycling calories are over-generous.
Still, it has made me think of what I'm putting in my mouth which can't be a bad thing.

Shut it
That's quite a harsh deficit.
