  • I think your right Bruce, I'm still keeping an eye on what I'm eating and consider myself healthy, I lost some weight but due to my increase in running and body weight work outs I think I've put it back on again, although I'm looking more toned than when I lost the weight to be honest.

I'm generally keeping under 1800 calories a day which I'm happy with and doesn't feel like a slog every day.

  • My mileage is down due to injury, may be putting on weight, don't own scales though.

  • Certain fruits totally satisfy me*

*I'm a filthy little so and so...

    Digger!

  • Dammit, can I come round strip nekkiid and find my ideal gay weight on your magic scales?

  • Calorie restriction is much more effective for weight loss than exercise.

  • Lthtt...

  • Calorie restriction is much more effective for weight loss than exercise.

There are some downsides to exercise:

    • Many people overestimate how much it can burn
    • People often try too much too early and then give up, rather than building up slowly and building fitness. They may also injure themselves in the process.
    • Vigorous exercise can stimulate food cravings and make people overeat.

That said, good fitness contributes to weight loss by improving your mood and energy levels. It's also a big help in maintaining a healthy weight after the initial weight loss.

  • ^you talk funny.

  • When you are, for example, locked in a wardrobe?

How about when you are trying to have to careers at the same time plus keep up on housework and your relationship?

  • about to quit my job to become a professional cake eater..

    Buy a heavier hoover?

  • Every time I run 15k or more, I start to crave chips. During the run.

I'm yet to stop off and eat any en route though.

Regular 15k runs are not practical for most people. Running like that is something you work towards (and sacrifice other things for). By the time you can do regular 15k runs, you're probably already in very good shape. We seem to be sliding into the realms of bragging about athleticism, rather than talking about practical weight loss.

  • I cycle to work every day and run 3 times a week. I'm quite new to running but one of my runs is 5K to work, the other 2 are shorter around the block usually about 1.5 miles.

You've clearly never met Tiswas- parts of him don't stop moving for ages after he stops running.

It's a bit like having a conversation with a Jellyfish on a Power Plate.

  • Ah, apologies for any offence given, then. Misunderstood your intent.

  • You do come across as disturbingly fit though Dan. So does Dammit nowadays too. Meeting you two always makes me think I could do more.

Going to the bar for another pint and having a fag normally sorts out my cravings for more exercise. If that doesn't work I go home for pizza and garlic bread. By that stage I'm guaranteed not to move and the cravings disappear entirely.

  • with a break from our so healthy lifestyle at home..
monday night nothing in the fridge/larder..
we had fish/chips and a large bottle of coke

    #win

  • I can't stand fizzy drinks. What's wrong with me?

in the short term. but dieting, particularly sudden calorie reductions over, say months/weeks, is quite often unsustainable for long periods (years and years) .. whereas a love of sport and exercise lasts a lifetime. that's the secret to long-term weight management, finding a sport (or sports) you are passionate about. most of us on here have bike riding, for others it's team sports, others lifting heavy weights.

if your primary goal is focused on having a good body, then it's unlikely that it'll work out in the long-term. a good body should come naturally from physical movement, as a kind of bonus.

  • ^^ But don't start eating more just because you've found an exercise you love!

  • Managed to put on 5kg in 10 days. I wasn't even at work!

  • Eating in bed again?

  • maybe get your wife to take her thumb off your head before stepping on the scales russ :D

  • God damn jelly beans, eating them again! Ah well I've just decided I'm cycling tonight when I go out rather than driving it!

    Any POTUSA lurking?
