  • Couldn't agree more. Although cutting out drink, doing press ups at home after rides and generally keeping an eye on what I eat is working for me at the moment.

Sounds like a good plan except I am deliberately working with a caloric excess atm. I'll trim down my (admittedly too high but nowhere fucking near 'obese') body fat % after I've achieved my other goals.

  • that bmi thing is bollocks.
according to my sub 20* bmi bob geldoff should be raising money for me. i did the bupa online age thingy and it said my 'health' age was 1 year less than my actual age,to bring it down to 4-5 years younger i had to fiddle the weight to 1 stone heavier than i am now. to achieve that would involve daily gym sessions, intensive protein intake and maybe a bit of roid rage.
i would be more unhealthy just to achieve the 'bupa healthy'.

*i may have crept up to 20. the increase in exercise has seen me gain 3kilos mainly on my legs/glutes so my 28in trousers are too tight round the legs but can fit my arm down the side of my 30's
i though exercise was supposed to make you lose weight? :-)

    Sumo?

I'm ramping up for a rugby turnament on Saturday, after which I will ramp down for a half marathon the next Saturday. Call me Oprah.

  • bmi has never been useful to me, have been overweight according to that for years, despite exceeding 200 miles a week on the bike, going to the gym and at one point also fencing 4 times a week.

a very rough rule of thumb

when my bmi was just over 30 people were telling me I looked gaunt

  • I'm also going to try and start swimming more since I think riding/ running is taking It's toll on one of my knees.

Maybe I should just keep off the fixed for a little while and ride gears for the forseeable future.

1.5 x bodyweight squats and 2 x bodyweight deadlifts are my current targets.

I'm glad I'm a heavyweight and don't have to worry about that cutting weight malarkey.

  • unharmed's wrestling technique - sit on the opponent

his eating of baked beans the night before is the extra secret weapon

  • Abso-fucking-lutely.

I used to train with a guy who was into bodybuilding and was on a super-high protein diet. Farted constantly.

  • protein farts are so fucking bad

Thats a fair bit of weight.

Farting with your headphones on, unable to tell if it was audible or not. Killer. Did this in front of some young ladies, at the gym, on Monday.

I then did too many bench press reps, and could'nt lift the bar off myself (usual training partner was visiting UK). Had to roll it down my body to get out.

Ha ha for this reason a only use dumbells. BMI is rubbish, 6'6" 120 kg = well into the obese range. Eating hard to limit weight loss to max 5kg over the rugby season.

Will still take me awhile to get there. I was closing in on the squat target then injured myself just before christmas and have reset to much less. I've spent quite a long time working with lower weights trying to get my technique stable too but I'm in no particular hurry.

Done both of these as well. Luckily (in the farting case) and unluckily (in the bench press case) I am usually the only one in my gym.

    Me too.

I've built up my neck and shoulders to cope well with hooking (we scrum every 4 minutes, not many completed a passes in Norwegian rugby). But I struggle to keep enougth meat on my ribbs for general play.

I'm swapping all my energy drink(etc.) intake, with energy + protein (eg High5 4:1). For all my running and cycling events, and drinking a protein shake after every form of exercise.

  • I have a Norges Rugbyforbund jersey.

  • i've always thought BMI was a pretty blunt tool.

BMI is intended for SEDENTARY people. Ignore it.

    I'm eligable..

    ....Just a little short
    ....and possibly a bit slow
    ....with admittedly little creative ability.

  • Mmm...creative hookers...

  • with strong necks.

  • What Hippy said.
I have to use BMI in my everyday job, and if i'm honest, when reporting back to the NHS, BMI is the only calculation that is universally accepted amongst health professionals. It is that or use body fat percentages and waist circumferences etc etc, that give such an innacurate measurement because of the way people record those measurements.
BMI is really only a tool to motivate sedentary individuals.

    Meh. This would work betterer.

  • so in summary I can't hide behind BMI figures, I in fact have to gauge if me myself am in fact over weight and unfit. this seriously fucks up my week

  • [Science]

    Stand up slowly.
If they dont all fall out, go for a run you fat cnut.
