  • Thanks for the info!! helped alot all to go in the research file. Does seem to be a common injury, which is good news for me.. although sounds like a terrible injury in some cases. Hope you all heal ok.

  • Bumping this thread, it seems I am the first of 2011. A dubious honour.

  • boooo

bad luck niall, care to share more?

  • Oof. Sorry to hear, Niall.

  • Nooo! What shitty luck.

  • See the bridges ride thread. brompton fail.

  • My shoulders are almost right. The right shoulder will never be right ... totally fuck forever .. everything that is a press in the gym .. weaker on the right ... everything that is a pull I am stronger on the right.

It is fucking bollox or live with 2-5 years of not being able to life my arm above my head after an NHS Op that will probably take forever to happen ... fuck that .. just train harder.

  • I don't know, it happened too fast. I have my suspicion that the front brake was engaging of its own accord when I hit a bump, but maybe I just stuck the front wheel in a rut?

I'll examine the bike once I can use both arms again.

  • GWS Niall.

Hope you don't look too silly on the big day if 'slung up'

  • Shit, sorry to hear about yours BlueQuinn. Get well soon.

FWIW, I was officially signed off three weeks ago, even I've been using my shoulder as normal for about four months. I still have the metalwork in, and probably will leave it in there.

  • crappy luck BlueQuinn - sorry to hear you have joined the club.

Josh - congrats on making it through to the other side. I had the metalwork out at King's as daysurgery last week, stitches came out yesterday, and I am pleased to report that everything is back to normal - still as strong (weak) as I always was...

  • I've examined the bike and the wheel is straight and true, nothing's lose or badly adjusted, so just have to put it down to small wheels+twitchy handling, being tired, not noticing some imperfection in the road surface that threw me off.

Been to the GP and got signed off for 2 weeks initially. Fracture clinic appointment isn't until next wednesday. The break is right at the shoulder end, and doesn't feel too bad. It's the fucking whiplash that hurts.

  • Glad to hear that BQ - it was very worrying on the night. Im annoyed the ambulance took so long

  • Here's the evidence. Nasty shoulder. Bad shoulder.

  • What the fracture clinic heals let no man put asunder.

  • A mate of mine had a nasty spill on a brompton not so long ago... not sure that they are ideal under heavy braking, and they feel so quick and solid they lull you into a false sense of security.

Brompton? Sounds like a Honda Blackbird...

  • Here's the evidence. Nasty shoulder. Bad shoulder.

Nasty ... I have a floating bit of my old collar bone floating inbetween my skin ... If you break it more than two times on the same time the bone is very flexible ...

My little sister can do a 360 degree rotation on her left hand.

  • ^nice technique

  • Its difficult to see from that x-ray exactly what has happened.
Has a small chunk come off at the end (I think its called a distal fracture) and pointed itself upwards a bit?

Have you got a little bump sticking up out of your skin?

A break in the middle of a collarbone heals up quicker and easier. One at the end near the shoulder is more problematic. I'll elaborate on my current situation later, have to finish up work now.

  • heal up quick bluequinn.

    I'm getting a brompton soon... i'm nervous now. :(

  • you'll be fine, just don't go drinking after work then cycle to Kew in the hopes of running in to some more cyclists. Or try using them as a bmx (Tim)

  • Nial PM if you need NHS help.
That # is not badly displaced, that should actually heal fairly well with out much intervention, trick is not to do more damage by using.
Which fracture clinic are you going to?

  • Royal London

they are leaving it for now and I'll go back in 4 weeks to see if it has changed.

  • Thats my hospital..i may be of assistance to you

  • I wanted to ask, especially of Buddah Fingaz cos his fracture was distal as well, what sort of pain you had with your clavicles?

The actual break site itself has virtually no pain at all, but the middle of my back between the shoulder blades is tense as all hell, and I get a lot of pain just under the shoulder blades in the middle of my back. I wonder if this is anything to do with the break or a different injury.

I was about to put my Rapha softshell in the wash when I noticed that it had a hole in the elbow. So that's what I landed on to break my fucking shoulder! I had no idea. No pain to my elbow, no injury, grazes or anything.
