Hi all, I'm wondering if maybe i shouldn't have opted for surgery after my collarbone break last year. Consultant at king's reckoned i didn't need it, but now i have a shoulder that is about 3 inches lower than t'other one and is still quite sore if i pick a lot of stuff up with arm on that side.
Superprecise, would be interested to know what made you go for op?
btw the doctor who saw me at roehampton when i broke it in richmond park offered to burn images onto cd for me without me asking. I guess he knew it's a bit of a twisted badge of honour for cyclists!

FOI acts? WTF? In Oz they just gave me mine and over here they said just go to 'this place' pay them some monies for processing and they sent me the images. Before you go all Stasi on them perhaps just ask?
He said none of the doctors had a clue how to get them, so I'd assumed he'd asked more than once. There are some places that won't give copies unless you write to them quoting the FoI.

That's be covered under DPA not FOI

Is breaking your collarbone gone out of fashion then? Seems to have died off.
Went to the clinic today for another check up... healing going very, very slowly... shit buzz.

Hey all, new to this forum.. Was wondering if any of you could give me a bit of info on your clavicle injuries, as I'm doing a product design project at uni originally looking at motorbike injuries which seemed to throw up clavicle as a common break. From what I can see through research there isn't much preventing this injury apart from shoulder pads and guards, which don't much help seeing as this bone is not very strong. Can anyone help by explaining how you managed to break your clavicle, how you fell, position etc. Also would you use something that would help stop/prevent this?.. Any help would be immense, thanks :)

i did mine being slammed into a car bonnet off my motorbike, the only way to prevent it would be ban women drivers lol

Broken mine twice. Both times from falling square on my shoulder from a height I would rather not have fallen from... Not sure what could help with that, unfortunately.

Yeah, humerus fractures is the new thing:
Not a bikeinjury, though, but I going insane not riding my bike for months. The only positive thing is that I survived and will probably get enough money from the insurance to make a downpayment on a new apartment...

Humerus injuries are funny.

i got my wrist shattered as the bars slammed full lock and kinda hit at a really odd angle, somehow my head was out of the way( i think it was still going backwards due to helmet weight) and i hit the collarbone on the car and sheared the socket it sits in off and ruined all the muscles and tendons
i was doing 25 and she was doing 40, my bike was stood in her car, a good 10 inches shorter than it was, if that gives you any help with how brutal the impact was
she came across to try and get a side road before i got to her, so she was about half turned when she hit me, i hit the bike, the bonnet, the roof, over the car into pavement and wall back into car back into wall and then out into the road
the car defo did the main damage but i think the flailing after impact with it dislocated did the majority of the lig/tendon/muscle damage
ive been told the fix is a screw thru my shoulder into the collarbone but id never ride anything or be able to lift my arm over chest height so i told them to piss off , i just put it with it coming out constantly
worst injury ever and ive had loads :D

I highsided after trying to lay the bike down on some grass at 30mph.
did a bit of a forward flip and came down on back of shoulder.
