  • King, I'm after a Track machine in 61cm at some point. If you come across one please get in contact (PMd)

    B

  • I believe the BMC Impec is the first entirely "handmade by machines"* carbon bike. must be an interesting process to watch robots weaving and laying carbon.

I prefer the cleaner looking Racemaster, the lugging on the Impec just looks like plasticine moulded around the tube joins.

Even though I started this thread, my mind has changed and I think I'm liking the Enigma Esprit a lot more than any BMC...

In 2011 its the racemachine. The racemaster has been discontinued. Shame really, I thought the inclusion of a carbon steerer on the 2010 model (should have been tapered though), would have improved sales no end. But maybe the high weight is too much of a deal killer.

I have a 2009 racemaster frameset on its way. Of all the high tech gimmickery on the frame, the bit that seduced me, was the massiveness of everything around the BB shell.

  • I found the internal cable routing a right bastard!...

Is yours 2nd hand? If so, hopefully the cable guide/sleeves are still present.

Mines NOS. Coming from a shop in Austria.

Internal cable routing dosent bother me too much. It should help me transport the bike on the car, without streatching the cables.

  • Have you seen the BB of a recent Cannondale?
makes that^ look like a teeny weeny polka-dot bikini.

  • +1 for the racemaster. I got mine (the blue/white design award winning) this year NOS for a mere £1600 full build on Ultegra SL w FSA carbon crankset.

So glad I got that because I hate the new one.. dream-bike ATTAINED!

  • PS anyone else think BMC now trump Cervelo as 'most technically advanced manufacturer' ?

  • ^ The manufacturing process of the Impec is certainly interesting. Would like to see it in action.

  • no, but they are very pretty

  • No Ben, that's just silly.

Have you seen the R5 California?

  • However the BMC TT01 looks fucking mental

  • PS anyone else think BMC now trump Cervelo

Possibly, as I did see a MAMIL on a BMC going round Regents Park on Sunday....

But of course. I mean, have you read their blurb?

  • while I agree that some bikes might be tougher and more advanced now we ARE talking about the 2007/2008 tour bikes... a full three years behind some of the bikes emerging this year.

I think it's fair to say it's unfair to compare new with (what begrudgingly could be referred to as) old.

Also I think it speaks volumes that the BMC above won design awards for it's technology and aesthetics.

  • *above being the Racemaster SLX01

I'm specifically thinking about a aluminium BB cluster. The Litespeed archon C1 is the beefiest road bike carbon BB cluster of the top of my head.

  • tough call.
I'd choose the CAAD10 if I were aluminium bike shopping,

Think the CAAD10 bb cluster there is from the 2010 model, not 100% though.

Edit- it is- the new one is beefier still (AFAIT from Cannondale website and its zoom function)

I cant think of many alu bikes that would compete with the CAAD 10 TBH. The bit about the SLX01's BB cluster I like is the way the chainstays are weilded as far apart as possible for stiffness. Looks pretty serious.

I did look at a Crit style roadie, and was recommended an all aluminium bike, the Spooky Skeletor. They're bloody well priced, and come with a ENVE fork. The SLX01 should give sort of ride I'm after, and as a result of the seatpost system they maintain the seat and head tube angles all the way down to Smallfurry size. Which was the deal maker.

  • Has your SLX01 been released yet?...

  • TRON rides BMC bikes

  • Has your SLX01 been released yet?...

    Nope.

Getting a bit paranoid TBH, but I am a bit releaved it did'nt arrive when I was away. (ironically in Switzerland). The slowness of the Norwegian customs is beyond belief though. So no panick yet.

Just ordered some nice yellow bartape for it too.

  • Gutted enve/edge aren't making any of their forks in 1" variant :-(

I'd go with an Easton EC90, theres usually quite a few on US EBay.

  • Over a reynolds ouzo?
