  • Over a reynolds ouzo?

    hmmmm tough one.

The Easton EC90 SL is 350g as opposed to the Reynolds 400g. The SLX is just over 300 grams, but I'm not sure that one comes in a 1" steerer sizing. AFAIK they are very similiar in terms of stiffness, ride comfort, and strength. So I'd get the cheapest, or if you find them for the same price the Easton.

The first upgrade on my SLX01 frameset will be a straight EA90 SLX. As it will drop 200g off the weight, without any notable effect on front end stiffness. The marketing blurb from BMC, when the 2009 SLX01 came out, said that the sprinters wanted an alu steerer, for stiffness and reliability. But I have difficulty buying into that. Maybe I'm wrong.

  • Has your SLX01 been released yet?...

    YES!

    yesyesyesyesyes.

Had to pay around £120 in duty etc. But I had the Austrian VAT removed which was around £85. So a real result all-in-all. I bought the frameset from an Austrian bikeshop via EBay. I figured the the frameset would have been a previously unsold bike, which had been broken down. Worst case being that it had been part of a demo bike. Picked it up last night, and it was was in prefect looking original packaging, and never opened. Result!

Going to get the missus to wrap it and put it under the Xmas tree. It wont kill the seller to wait 3 extra days for feedback.

well I got a great price on Easton sl straight- bout 140 BINB. I'm thinking after this I may buy one more fork- when I come to sell one of my 1"ers. A brand new fork would be a deal clincher for potential buyers

  • lovely!

    ...pictures?

  • I've cut the steerer, but might take another 5mm off after I've had a chance to ride it. I have some Easton EC90 SLX3 bars in the post, as well as some black Ultremos. I have some yellow Lizard skins DSP tape, and some yellow Keo 2 max pedals (bargin after contrador scandal, as I has no morals) which both match well. At this stage the frame looks like it will fit brilliantly.

(sorry about the shite photos, its very dark and I cant work Mrs Smallfurry's flash)

  • ....and yeah, I should probably clean the workroom floor.

  • I'm always a fan of BMC's integrated seatpost.

my favourite is the square tubed one.

  • i've heard that they have a tendency to crack, is this true?

  • i've heard that they have a tendency to creak, is this true?

    FTFY ;)

I have some silicon film (IPad screen saver) on the way to seal the post against the seattube, and hopefully prevent this. Its problem which developes from dust etc getting inside (I think), so a preventative measure should sort it.

  • AFAIK, crack usually occur when poorly installed.

  • Havent heard of cracking myself. TBH the whole frameset is pretty damn solid looking/feeling. So although its far from the lightest its should be pretty durable.

  • why does that fork have such huge clearance? cross frame??

  • why does that fork have such huge clearance? cross frame??

Check the pic again and see if you can spot what's missing.

  • Haha, Not much in the way of clearance.

Putting all the high tech BS (much as I love it) to one side. The geometry of that frame is unlike any other I've seen recently in my size (49). Looks like a grown ups bike, and has a wheelbase of only 967. Nice.

That fancy seat post is call a streampost 73.5. So all the sizes have 73.5 seat tube angles. This makes a big difference to the look of a XS bike, which would usually have a 74.5 or so STA.

    I know this one.
    Pedals.

  • Tyres, Sherlock...

  • that frame is teh sex

  • hey Smallfurry nice lil racemaster there, fancy joining the TNRC on it? I'm the only BMCer there atm :(

what groupo you putting on it?

  • PS I've never had my seatpost creak and I'm pretty sure the stock forks are EAston's EC70s so the 90s are a nice lil upgrade.

Out of interest how much did you get the frameset for>?

    Fair point.
    I'm looking into Trondheim -> Oslo (540km),
