I was at a dinner at the Savoy a week or so before a London to Paris charity ride. I mentioned that I was riding to the chap sitting next to me and in a flash he organised for a menu to be passed around the table and for everyone to sign up to sponsor me on condition I had my legs waxed. There were around 30 people at the dinner and I raised a grand in a couple of minutes. Raised about £8k in all. The ride led to my obsession with cycling.
