Mine were watching fireworks out of the window. Fearless!
Smelly litter trays - use 'Worlds Best Cat Litter' and scoop daily. What are you feeding the cat ... ?
-
• #103
I scoop every time I see a turd and check every time I'm in the bathroom (litter tray beside the toilet). Using Catsan, covered tray, feeding them Felix kitten wet pouches and Whiskas kitten dry.
First used some wood pulp pellets from Morissons which was good for odour prevention but urine turned it into fine sawdust which was walked all over the flat.

^This is spot on, exactly what we do.
I also shake my head and look very disapoint when Higgs does a poo that means I have to open the bathroom windows for an hour or two.

Felix and Whiskas... boo. It's like McDonalds for cats.
Buy Hills or equivalent, no wet food unless you have a male outdoors cat and even then, not much.
Cat trays are smelly from the urine, shite should be removed. Newspaper as a liner and the litter of your choice works better than most "clumping/absorbing/whatever" in my opinion.

if you're willing to pay for childrens' futures then I will buy Hills
-
• #107
Work out the cost for your pouches, then buy a measuring cup (the vet will give you one for free) and work out the equivalent cost for Hills.
Guaranteed it's under half the price per year, vet-uk does 10kg for £40 odd. You're currently paying extra to fill your cat with sugar, fat and flavorings.

that is so true. people dont realize the crap that is in feliz or wiskas and all the other big brands. I had to feed one of my cats raw food because of a digestive problem caused by shitty foods. The best part about feeding them raw meat is that their poo does not smell. it comes out like plastic. no scent and no moisture. they also don't really drink water either.
if you let your cat outside then they poo in your neighbor's yard.

Using 80% chicken dry food, the mogs seem to like it.

My moms cats just eat dry food and their poo doesn't smell. I once found a wax crayon in my shoe, except it wasn't a crayon. It was very difficult to tell.
-
• #111
Did you draw with it?
-
• #112
Almost....I shouted at my sister for leaving it in my room, then i realised crayons aren't pointy at both ends...

its not so much the poo but the pee that smells. only thing you can do is train it to go in the human toilet. or outside.

Once they're vaccinated and neutered we will let them out but we can't fit a cat flap so will have to keep the tray.

Anyone had a problem with convincing their cat to go outside?
Alley and us used to live in this house a year ago, and now we've moved back. When we were here before she went outside, no problem. In the year we've been gone she's had to use a litter box, but now that we're back we are trying to convince her that outside is the way, but she isn't so sure. She's peeing outside, but shitting on the carpet.
She's spent her whole life going back and forth between litter tray's and outside with no problem before and I have no clue as to how to break her of the habit. Currently we are showing her the poop, yelling at her, putting her and the poop outside together, then telling her she's a good kitty and leaving her outside for a few hours. -

If you reintroduced a litter tray - would she shit in it, rather than on the carpet?
I've used a staged technique before - moving the litter tray closer and closer to the back door over a few days, then putting it immediately outside the back door. When this worked I then continued moving it further out in the garden to a patch of soil. Then I removed the tray and just sprinkled the litter on the soil for a couple of days. Finally I stopped with the litter completely, and had a proud moment as she shat right where I planned...
high fives kitty - washes hands

at cats maximum terminal velocity is never fast enough to be fatal, doesn't matter what height it falls from it shouldn't do it any harm.
Infact a full grown human's terminal velocity is not always fatal either, depending on soft enough ground.
(not going to test the theory out tho)
(well maybe on a cat) -

Sound advice.

Scoulding doesn't work very well on cats, you'd be better off using a fine water spray to discourage any bad behaviour. Moving the poop is a good idea.
Another tactic is to upset the cat's rhythm of which areas are waste and which are for feeding/sleeping. If you thoroughly cleaned the existing waste area and then moved a food bowl or sleeping basket there they will instinctively look for an alternative spot... this can be stressful though, so make sure the alternative's reasonably obvious and that you don't shift stuff around too often.

You've taken the collar off VeeVee?!?
Jaygee had to put it back on this morning after my hissy fit at a cyclist who undertook me. According to Jaygee the guy was in the right. I am very cross.

So basically you are teaching your cat that when she wants to go outside she just needs to poo on the carpet....
Never, ever shouts at your cat. I mean it.

i often shout at my cat. but then again it's usually just the shipping report.
"FORTIES! CROMARTY FORTH TYNE DOGGER GERMAN BIGHT! HUMBER THAMES SOUTHEAST BAKCING EAST! 6 TO GALE 8! OCCASSIONALLY SEVERE!"
she seems to like it.

i know it is unbelievably frustrating, but unless you actually catch you cat in the act, they will not associate being shouted at with pooing on the carpet. moving the litter tray closer to the door then outside is by far the best bet.

Do you smell of fish at the same time? ;)

at least she is not peeing on your carpet, that would be worse. shouting at the cat will not work. they will do it again knowing they are getting away with it. you must catch her in the act and pick her up and move her outside. moving the litter might not work since she is not using it.

My kitten broke the butter dish today by jumping on the kitchen surface and knocking it off.
How do I communicate to the kitten that some surfaces are verboten?
Sorry to hear the news about WiganWill's and Brave's pusscats :-(
My cat got scared of the fireworks last night and did a shit on my bed.
