  • As good as his photos are, applying Instagram filters to pictures of a war zone doesn't quite sit right with me. If he just left the borders alone then that would have been fine.

  • Wank border

    where is this?

  • Libya

  • Whats so funny?

I think that hahahahahaha was written in a humorous, sarcastic way,
like, "har har, they pay us big money though even though us pros just push some buttons on expensive cameras, har har".
    May be wrong.

Anyways, way too much pointless discussion on here lately; I'll see if I can find some decent digital stuff I can post later.

  • I used to do a lot a of gig photography. For free. Working for a music review website circa 2002-2005. Free entrance to anything from small venues like the barfly to main stage pass at some of the major festivals. Never got paid (though a couple of the bands bought a few pics off me). BUT I used this to launch my pro career in my early twenties when I was still pretty green. Met plenty of pros in the pits who were paid for their time, and they never seemed threatened by my presence, probably because they'd already worked their way to being a pro and getting a good reputation. I then got a job as a photojournalist, and moved away from music.*

People photographing gig for free/for tickets is always going to happen. But people aren't stupid, if they realise their photos are in demand, and they want to get into photography (who wouldn't) they are going to monetize that situation, it's human nature. Yes, the jump from amateur to professional in the music industry is harder these days, because of the availability of digital, but so what? If you want it, and graft you arse off for it, you will get it.**

People filming/photoing on phones at gigs deserve as swift kick to the cunt mind.

*I am still available to hire for live music photography - I still has the skillz.
**applies to all things in this life.

  • Because he thinks he knows otherwise.
But the fact remains, photographers mainly get hired on the strength of their portfolio and previous work.
I don't know whether you have any experience in professional or freelance photography excluding owning a camera and doing shoots for friends but if you don't know what you're doing in this industry you will be left behind without work along with all the iPhone and compact gig snappers.

You are forgetting the group of pro photographers who are "okay", but have fantastic business sense.

  • looks like a painting

  • Really love that.

Must've been a pain to align the photo thought!

  • B-sides.

  • What a face! Really like it.

^^ cheers Ed, I was a bit drunk when I took it so it needed some realigning in lr...

  • B-sides.

    Awesome. Both.

  • Fuck people with phones out at gigs

    This. Always.
'Deal with it' means fuck all.
It's happening, they're wankers, I'm dealing with it, they're still wankers.

  • Chuck beer at it.

  • Went with the Canon S120 in the end.
Loving how small it is. Shot from the beach today.

  • I'm sure ben will agree with this - people taking photos on their iPads, the single best way to ruin my photo

  • I like the way my point has been misconstrued and also understood on the same page. Thanks lfgss. Ben, I may be in touch about some exciting stuff for next summer :)

    1. I never said all music doesn't want to change. The music I still gladly pay to experience hinges on continually pushing forward. Think Ninja Tune etc. The "deal with it" attitude grew from producers/venue owners or musicians that were too grounded in the old way of thinking which is "leech every penny". If " dealing with it" means giving up for you then you misunderstand me. I mean adapt. They stop you using an slr? use a rangefinder, no flashes? position for lighting. The list can go on. The crappy excuse of "Proper/Professional" camera is such a load of shit, you tell that to Capa who was rolling around in asa50 film and still shot magic. Go on Instagram any day, pick a good account and there are people that shoot on iPhone4's that would shame many so called 'professionals'.

Are you referring to me? Pretty sure I already made that point.

  • Good photo or not, the person that's holding the phone is a tosser.

  • I like the way my point has been misconstrued and also understood on the same page. Thanks lfgss. Ben, I may be in touch about some exciting stuff for next summer :)

I believe that was partially my fault. For my part, you have my apologies. It's an inflammatory subject.

You can take pictures of music? That's skillz indeed. :)

  • It looks like the aurora borealis

  • Synesthesia plug-in for PS?

  • "hotel window view/inspired by well is it"

"generic girlfriend portrait/realisation i don't have a clue how to do portraits"
