  • Bruce Forsyth surely?
What was he doing on the TV last night? Why do we care about what he has to say on politics? This isn't The Generation Game!

  • They are already on 291...
    34 seats to be declared.

    Notice the "if"

    statement from #10 very soon...

  • So, who won? Is there now gonna be some kind of fight to the death to decide the bossman?

No, its 2010 media world though...

  • According to bbc news live coverage I just rode past Clegg. He seems to be coming to me place. About time

  • Notice the "if"

    statement from #10 very soon...
Fair point. Imagine their outrage if Brown is successful in forming a new parliament! "We got more seats! We're richer than you! Jeeves? Jeeves! Fetch the gun..."

No, its 2010 media world though...
    I know, what a joke :(

  • @hippy - no-one has won.

Cameron will try and claim the win given that he has the largest number of seats and the largest share of the vote, but at a shade over 36% that isn't a mandate.

Labour have lost but not as badly as they feared and retain popular support in large parts of the country.

The LibDems have failed to turn their momentum into seats and must be rather depressed this morning.

Constitutionally, Brown as sitting PM has the right to try and form a government and Labour party grandees are already making a play for the LibDems. The Tories will look to their traditional allies in Northern Ireland to see if they can form a minority government. It's interesting to note that the Unionists in Northern Ireland did quite badly with the two leaders of the Unionist parties, Empey and Robinson, both losing their seats.

  • I made it to 04:30 then passed out.

Waking up this morning I feel sick. Brown needs to pack his bags, now. Harriet Hardon should shut the fuck up and stop clutching at straws regarding whether Labour 'lost'.

Split government between Cameron and Clegg is going to happen; despite the differences this country NEEDS a new direction.

  • How is a Conservative (and a clue is in the name) government a 'new direction' exactly?

  • Gordon Brown asks cabinet secretary to provide support on request for parties to negotiate a beneficial outcome for Britain

  • Unconfirmed reports of burnt toast in the West Country.

now confirmed. sorry. i set the smoke alarm off...

lib dem where i live. whoop. go steve williams.

    Go back to sleep mate

  • Anyone see westminster north? Tory failed to get a high priority seat from Labour. Tory woman's face was gold. She started shouting about media lies, HAHAHA

  • Clegg says he think mandate is with Tories.

  • anyone fancy starting a new party?

BRRP - British Republican Reformist Party

  • I just waded through pages and pages of tynan and will making funnies about poo.

@Chug_it, thatcher's little helper. Thanks for 'Guilt', sounds fucking lush! I'm going to try that.

  • He's not really said anything - he said the option to form a Government (very different from a mandate to rule) should be with the Tories as they got more votes (although that's not how the system works!). He then said BUT electoral reform is really important, the system is broken and needs fixing. So he's given a holding reply and will now be sitting down with party bigwigs to have a very serious think.

Clegg says he think mandate is with Tories.

  • It does, a new direction provided by electoral reform, which a Cameron/Clegg Government seems very unlikely to deliver. Not sure where you are getting your certainty from!

Split government between Cameron and Clegg is going to happen; despite the differences this country NEEDS a new direction.

  • Mandate to seek to govern. After talks anything could happen.

  • I was incredulous last night as the forst few results cam in, that Mandy and Hardman seemed to be manouvering themselves into a position ready to handjob the Libs with 'oh yes what we really need is some electoral reform, the FPTP system is totally wrong and unfair'. Unbelieveable!

  • How can they still be counting in 33 constituencies? Have they been sleeping all night? The first one took less than an hour. I know they were going for the record and everything but it's 13 hours since the polls closed.
If a recount is requested does that come after the results are announced, or before?

  • Some of them have been yes. I don't get it either. They didn't start counting in Warwick and Leamington until 9.00 this morning. WTF were they doing all night?!

Recount normally comes before, unless there are allegations of cheating. Pretty sure Glenda Jackson's majority was recounted.

  • some counts weren't started til 9am.

    Sleeping, like sensible people.

Labour has already proposed bill for voting reform, months ago. (I think)
